God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

The tomb being sealed, You rose from the sepulcher, O Christ God, the Life. And the doors being shut, You came to the disciples, O resurrection of all. Through them You renew a right spirit within us, according to Your great mercy. [GOASD]

O holy Apostle James, make intercession to our merciful God, that He grant our souls forgiveness of offenses.

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Σταυρωθέντος σου Χριστέ, ἀνῃρέθη ἡ τυραννίς, ἐπατήθη ἡ δύναμις τοῦ ἐχθροῦ· οὔτε γὰρ Ἄγγελος, οὐκ ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλʼ αὐτὸς ὁ Κύριος ἔσωσας ἡμᾶς. Δόξα σοι.

When You were crucified, O Christ, the enemy’s tyranny was lifted and his power was crushed. For it was no Angel nor mere man, but You, the Lord himself, who saved us. Glory to You! [SD]

Ὁ Ἰσαὰκ ἐν τῷ βουνῷ ἀνηνέχθη, ὁ Ἰωνᾶς ἐν τῷ βυθῷ κατηνέχθη καὶ ἀμφότεροι τὸ πάθος σου Σωτὴρ ἐξεικόνιζον, ὁ μὲν τὰ δεσμὰ καὶ τὴν σφαγὴν ὁ δὲ τὴν ταφὴν καὶ τὴν ζωήν, τῆς παραδόξου Ἐγέρσεώς σου, Κύριε, δόξα σοι.

Isaac was led up into the mountain, and Jonah was led down into the sea, and both of them depicted Your Passion, O Savior. The one portrayed the bonds and the slaughter, the other portrayed the sepulcher, and the life of Your wonderful Resurrection. Glory to You, O Lord! [SD]

The holy martyrs suffered painful tortures for Your sake, O Lord; be compelled by what they endured, and heal our every pain, we entreat You, O only benevolent God. [SD]

We have obtained your protection, O immaculate Lady, and by your earnest entreaties we are saved from calamities. In everything we are guarded by the Cross of your Son. We all dutifully magnify you piously. [SD]

Ἁψάμενος χειρί, τῆς πλευρᾶς τῆς ἀστέκτου, ὁ Δίδυμος Θωμᾶς, οὐκ ἐφλέχθη τῇ ψαύσει, ἀλλʼ ἔμεινε τοὺς μώλωπας, ψηλαφῶν ἀκριβέστερον, καὶ φθεγγόμενος, τῷ διʼ ἡμᾶς λογχευθέντι· Σύ μου Κύριος, καὶ σὺ Θεός μου ὑπάρχεις, κἄν πάθος ὑπήνεγκας.

When Thomas, who was known as the Twin, touched the Savior’s * insufferable side with his hand, he was not burnt, * but lingering he touched the wounds more precisely and cried aloud * to the Master who was by a spear pierced for our sake, * “Even if You did accept to suffer the Passion, * my Lord and my God are You!” [SD]

Ἀνάστασιν Χριστοῦ θεασάμενοι, προσκυνήσωμεν Ἅγιον Κύριον Ἰησοῦν, τὸν μόνον ἀναμάρτητον. Having beheld the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one. Your Cross, O Christ, we venerate, and Your holy Resurrection we praise and glorify. For You are our God; apart from You we know no other; we call upon Your name. Come, all faithful, let us venerate the holy Resurrection of Christ; for behold, through the Cross, joy has come to the whole world. Ever blessing the Lord, let us praise His Resurrection; for having endured the Cross for us, He destroyed death by death. [GOA]

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. You heard the voice of God calling you ⁄ and turned away from the love of your father. ⁄ With your kinsman you hastened after Christ, glorious James. ⁄⁄ with him, you were counted worthy to behold the Lord’s divine Transfiguration! [OCA]

I pray you, O thrice-blessed James, as a fisher of men, with the net of your holy prayers, pull up my humble soul from the sea of transgressions, for it has been the prey of the pleasures of life for a long time. Thus leading the rest of my life without wavering, I shall extol your name and glorify your blameless life, which you led on the earth, for which on Mt. Tabor you were counted worthy to behold the Lord’s divine Transfiguration. [SD]

On April 30 we commemorate the holy and glorious Apostle James, the brother of St. John the Theologian.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ, μνήμη τοῦ Ὁσίου Πατρὸς ἡμῶν Κλήμεντος τοῦ Ποιητοῦ.

On this day we also commemorate our devout father Clement the ecclesiastical poet.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Maximus.

On this day we also commemorate the finding of the relics of the holy Hieromartyr Vasilefs, Bishop of Amasia.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ, μνήμη τοῦ ἐν Ἁγίοις Πατρὸς ἡμῶν Δονάτου, Ἐπισκόπου Εὐροίας.

On this day we also commemorate our father among the saints Donatus, Bishop of Euroia.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ, ἡ Ἁγία Νεομάρτυς Ἀργυρῆ, ἡ κατὰ τὸ ἔτος ᾳψκεʹ (1725) ἐν Κωνσταντινουπόλει τὸν Χριστὸν ὁμολογήσασα καὶ βασανισθεῖσα, ἐν φυλακῇ τελειοῦται.

On this day the holy Neo-martyr Argyri, who confessed Christ in Constantinople and was tortured for it, died in prison in the year 1725.

Now let Habakkuk as a God-inspired prophet stand with us, * keeping his divine watch, and show us * the angelic messenger, who, shining, utters glowingly, * “Today, for the world is salvation,* because arisen is Christ, being omnipotent.” [GOASD]

Κατῆλθες ἐν τοῖς κατωτάτοις τῆς γῆς, καὶ συνέτριψας μοχλοὺς αἰωνίους, κατόχους πεπεδημένων Χριστέ, καὶ τριήμερος, ὡς ἐκ κήτους Ἰωνᾶς, ἐξανέστης τοῦ τάφου.

You went down to the nether regions of earth, * and You broke apart the bars that forever * were closed on those who were held there, O Christ. * From the sepulcher, * as did Jonah from the whale, * You arose on the third day. [GOASD]

Ὁ Παῖδας ἐκ καμίνου ῥυσάμενος, γενόμενος ἄνθρωπος, πάσχει ὡς θνητός, καὶ διὰ πάθους τὸ θνητόν, ἀφθαρσίας ἐνδύει εὐπρέπειαν, ὁ μόνος εὐλογητὸς τῶν Πατέρων, Θεὸς καὶ ὑπερένδοξος.

The same One who delivered the Lads from fire, becoming a mortal man, * suffers in the flesh; and by His Passion He arrays * mortal nature with majesty, free of all * corruption, the only God of the fathers, * blessed and supremely glorious. [GOASD]

Αἰνοῦμεν, εὐλογοῦμεν καὶ προσκυνοῦμεν τὸν Κύριον.

We praise and we bless and we worship the Lord.

Αὔτη ἡ κλητὴ καὶ ἁγία ἡμέρα, ἡ μία τῶν Σαββάτῳν, ἡ βασιλὶς καὶ κυρία, ἑορτῶν ἑορτή, καὶ πανήγυρίς ἐστι πανηγύρεων, ἐν ᾗ εὐλογοῦμεν Χριστὸν εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας.

This is it, the Day which is chosen and holy, * Day One of the Sabbaths. * It is the queen-day, the Lord’s Day, * and the Feast of all feasts, * and the Festival above every festival, * on which we extol Christ and bless Him to the ages. [GOASD]

Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds.

Βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς καὶ πάντες λαοί, ἄρχοντες καὶ πάντες κριταὶ γῆς.

Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all judges of the earth.

Νεανίσκοι καὶ παρθένοι, πρεσβύτεροι μετὰ νεωτέρων· αἰνεσάτωσαν τὸ ὄνομα Κυρίου, ὅτι ὑψώθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ μόνου.

Young men and maidens, elders with younger, let them praise the Lord’s name, for His name alone is exalted.

His thanksgiving is in earth and heaven. And He shall exalt the horn of His people.

A hymn for all His saints, for the children of Israel, a people who draw near to Him.

Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of His holy ones.

Εὐφρανθήτω Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ τῷ ποιήσαντι αὐτόν, καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Σιὼν ἀγαλλιάσθωσαν ἐπὶ τῷ βασιλεῖ αὐτῶν.

Let Israel be glad in Him who made him, and let the children of Zion greatly rejoice in their King.

Αἰνεσάτωσαν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐν χορῷ, ἐν τυμπάνῳ καὶ ψαλτηρίῳ ψαλάτωσαν αὐτῷ.

Let them praise His name with dance; with tambourine and harp let them sing to Him.

For the Lord is pleased with His people, and He shall exalt the gentle with salvation.

The holy ones shall boast in glory, and they shall greatly rejoice on their beds.

Αἱ ὑψώσεις τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν, καὶ ῥομφαῖαι δίστομοι ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν.

The high praise of God shall be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand.

Τοῦ ποιῆσαι ἐκδίκησιν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, ἐλεγμοὺς ἐν τοῖς λαοῖς.

To deal retribution to the nations, reproving among the peoples.

Τοῦ δῆσαι τοὺς βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν ἐν πέδαις καὶ τοὺς ἐνδόξους αὐτῶν ἐν χειροπέδαις σιδηραῖς.

To shackle their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron.

To fulfill among them the written judgment: this glory have all His holy ones.

Come all, and with psalms and hymns let us extol James, that herald of the heavenly revelation, that oracle of the Gospel. He was like a river in the spiritual Garden of Eden, irrigating souls like fields with heavenly showers, and making them bear fruit for Christ God, who by the intercessions of this Evangelist grants to everyone forgiveness and the great mercy.
