Ἀδελφοί, πίστει προσενήνοχεν Ἀβραὰμ τὸν Ἰσαὰκ πειραζόμενος, καὶ τὸν μονογενῆ προσέφερεν ὁ τὰς ἐπαγγελίας ἀναδεξάμενος, πρὸς ὃν ἐλαλήθη ὅτι ἐν Ἰσαὰκ κληθήσεταί σοι σπέρμα, λογισάμενος ὅτι καὶ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγείρειν δυνατὸς ὁ Θεός· ὅθεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐν παραβολῇ ἐκομίσατο. Πίστει περὶ μελλόντων εὐλόγησεν Ἰσαὰκ τὸν Ἰακὼβ καὶ τὸν Ἠσαῦ. Πίστει Ἰακὼβ ἀποθνήσκων ἕκαστον τῶν υἱῶν Ἰωσὴφ εὐλόγησε, καὶ προσεκύνησεν ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τῆς ῥάβδου αὐτοῦ. Πίστει Μωϋσῆς γεννηθεὶς ἐκρύβη τρίμηνον ὑπὸ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, διότι εἶδον ἀστεῖον τὸ παιδίον, καὶ οὐκ ἐφοβήθησαν τὸ διάταγμα τοῦ βασιλέως. Πίστει Μωϋσῆς μέγας γενόμενος ἠρνήσατο λέγεσθαι υἱὸς θυγατρὸς Φαραώ, μᾶλλον ἑλόμενος συγκακουχεῖσθαι τῷ λαῷ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἢ πρόσκαιρον ἔχειν ἁμαρτίας ἀπόλαυσιν, μείζονα πλοῦτον ἡγησάμενος τῶν Αἰγύπτου θησαυρῶν τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν τοῦ Χριστοῦ· ἀπέβλεπε γὰρ εἰς τὴν μισθαποδοσίαν. Πίστει κατέλιπεν Αἴγυπτον μὴ φοβηθεὶς τὸν θυμὸν τοῦ βασιλέως· τὸν γὰρ ἀόρατον ὡς ὁρῶν ἐκαρτέρησε. Πίστει πεποίηκε τὸ πάσχα καὶ τὴν πρόσχυσιν τοῦ αἵματος, ἵνα μὴ ὁ ὀλοθρεύων τὰ πρωτότοκα θίγῃ αὐτῶν. Πίστει διέβησαν τὴν Ἐρυθρὰν θάλασσαν ὡς διὰ ξηρᾶς, ἧς πεῖραν λαβόντες οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι κατεπόθησαν. Πίστει τὰ τείχη Ἱεριχὼ ἔπεσε κυκλωθέντα ἐπὶ ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας. Πίστει Ῥαὰβ ἡ πόρνη οὐ συναπώλετο τοῖς ἀπειθήσασι, δεξαμένη τοὺς κατασκόπους μετ᾽ εἰρήνης.	Brethren, by faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was ready to offer up his only son, of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your descendants be named.” He considered that God was able to raise men even from the dead; hence, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back. By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau. By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff. By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of the Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he looked to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king; for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the first-born might not touch them. By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as if on dry land; but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given friendly welcome to the spies. [RSV]

At that time, as Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; rise, he is calling you.” And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabboni, let me receive my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. Τῇ ΚΗʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μηνὸς μνήμη τῶν Ἁγίων Δισμυρίων, τῶν ἐν Νικομηδείᾳ καέντων.	On December 28 we commemorate the Holy 20,000 who burned in Nicomedia.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων Μαρτύρων, τῶν ἀπὸ τῆς Συγκλήτου, ἔξω τῆς πυρᾶς ἀπολειφθέντων, καὶ τελειωθέντων.	On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyrs, who were in the Senate, who fled from the fire, died.
Ὁ ἅγίος Ἴνδης, ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ βληθείς, τελειοῦται.	St. Indos, died by drowning in the sea.
Οἱ ἅγιοι Γοργόνιος καὶ Πέτρος, ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ τελειοῦνται.	Sts. Gorgon and Peter, died in the sea.
Ὁ ἅγιος Μάρτυς Ζήνων, ξίφει τελειοῦται.	The holy Martyr Zeno, died by the sword.
Ὁ ἅγιος Μάρτυς Μαρδόνιος, πυρὶ τελειοῦται.	The holy Martyr Mardonios, died by fire.
Ὁ ἅγιος Δωρόθεος, ὁ Πρεπόσιτος, ξίφει τελειοῦται.	St. Dorotheos, the courtier, died by the sword.
Ὁ ἅγιος Θεόφιλος ὁ Διάκονος, λιθοβοληθείς, τελειοῦται.	St. Theophilos the Deacon, died by stoning.
Ὁ ἅγιος Μυγδόνιος, βόθρῳ ἐγχωσθείς, τελειοῦται.	St. Mygdonios died by being buried in a pit.
Ὁ ἅγιος Γλυκέριος ὁ Πρεσβύτερος, πυρὶ τελειοῦται.	St. Glycerius the Priest, died by fire.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἡ ἁγία Δόμνα, ξίφει τμηθεῖσα, τῷ πυρὶ τελειοῦται.	On this day St. Domna, was cut by the sword and died by fire.
Ὁ ὅσιος Σίμων ὁ Μυροβλύτης, ὁ κτήτωρ τῆς ἐν τῷ Ἄθῳ ἱερᾶς Μονῆς Σιμωνοπέτρας, ἐν εἰρήνῃ τελειοῦται.	The devout St. Simon the Myrrh-Streamer, the founder of the holy Monastery of Simonopetra on Athos reposed in peace.
