God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

Ἱερέων ποδήρει κατακοσμούμενος, καὶ αἱμάτων τοῖς ῥείθροις ἐπισταζόμενος, τῷ Δεσπότῃ σου Χριστῷ μάκαρ ἀνέδραμες, Ἐλευθέριε σοφέ, καθαιρέτα τοῦ Σατᾶν. Διὸ μὴ παύσῃ πρεσβεύων, ὑπὲρ τῶν πίστει τιμώντων, τὴν μακαρίαν σου ἄθλησιν.

Χαῖρε πύλη Κυρίου ἡ ἀδιόδευτος· Χαῖρε τεῖχος καὶ σκέπη τῶν προστρεχόντων εἰς σέ· Χαῖρε ἀχείμαστε λιμήν, καὶ ἀπειρόγαμε· ἡ τεκοῦσα ἐν σαρκὶ τὸν ποιητήν σου καὶ Θεόν, πρεσβεύουσα μὴ ἐλλείπῃς, ὑπὲρ τῶν ἀνυμνούντων, καὶ προσκυνούντων τὸν τόκον σου.

Hail, gate of the Lord, through which no man has passed! * Wall and shelter of all who rely on you, rejoice! * Port and haven undisturbed by any tempest, rejoice! * You gave birth to your Creator and God in the flesh, * ever remaining a virgin. * Never cease interceding for us who worship and extol your Son. Ἀναγινώσκεται τὸ οἰκεῖον Κάθισμα τοῦ Ψαλτηρίου, ἤτοι Κάθισμα 7. Μεθʼ ὃ ἡ μικρὰ Συναπτή.

The appointed Kathisma of the Psalter may be read, i.e. Kathisma 7. Then the short litany.

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Παροικοῦσα ἐν τῇ γῇ, ψυχή μου μετανόησον, χοῦς ἐν τάφῳ οὐχ ὑμνεῖ, πταισμάτων οὐ λυτροῦται, βόησον Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ. Καρδιογνῶστα ἥμαρτον, πρίν με καταδικάσῃς, φεῖσαί μου ὁ Θεός, καὶ ἐλέησόν με.

O my soul, repent while you still sojourn on earth, for dust in the grave does not sing praise, nor is it released from transgressions. Cry out now to Christ God, “Knower of the heart, I have sinned. Before You condemn me, spare me, O God, and have mercy on me.” [SD]

Στίχ. Κύριε, μὴ τῷ θυμῷ σου ἐλέγξῃς με, μηδὲ τῇ ὀργῇ σου παιδεύσῃς με.

Verse: O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your anger.

How long will you persist in your offenses, O my soul? Till when will you put off repenting? Call to mind the judgment that is coming, and cry aloud to Christ God: “O sinless Lord, who know the hearts of all, I have sinned. Have mercy on me.” [SD]

Καταφυγὴ καὶ δύναμις ἡμῶν Θεοτόκε, ἡ κραταιὰ βοήθεια τοῦ κόσμου, ταῖς πρεσβείαις σου σκέπε τοὺς δούλους σου, ἀπὸ πάσης ἀνάγκης, μόνη εὐλογημένη.

You are our refuge and strength, O Theotokos, and for the world you are a mighty assistance. With your intercessions shelter your servants, from any hard necessity, O only blessed Lady. [SD]

Lord, You know the depth of my offenses. Give me Your hand, as You did to Peter, and save me. [GOASD]

Στίχ. Ἐπίβλεψον ἐπʼ ἐμὲ καὶ ἐλέησόν με κατὰ τὸ κρίμα τῶν ἀγαπώντων τὸ ὄνομά σου.

Verse: Look upon me and have mercy on me.

When the time comes for the just judgment, and the Judge of all will pass judgment, what defense will you present, O my soul, unless before the end you cry to Him, “I have sinned, O God; have mercy on me.” [GOASD]

Ἐν τῇ σκέπῃ σου, προσπεφευγότες, πίστει κράζομεν, ψυχῆς ἐκ βάθους, θεομακάριστε Προφῆτα καὶ Πρόδρομε, τῶν πειρασμῶν καὶ κινδύνων τὸν τάραχον, καὶ νοσημάτων τὸν σάλον κατεύνασον, καὶ ματαίωσον ἐχθρῶν δυσμενῶν βουλεύματα, αἰτούμενος ἡμῖν τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

We rely on you and your protection, * and we soulfully with faith implore you, * O St. John, Prophet, Forerunner, blest by God, * to quell the storm of diseases afflicting us, * the woes and dangers that shake us like turbulence. * Frustrate every plot that enemies have prepared for us, * and ask the Lord to grant us the great mercy. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Ὡς καλλονὴν τῶν ἱερέων Ὅσιε, καὶ προτροπὴν τῶν Ἀθλοφόρων ἅπαντες, εὐφημοῦμεν καὶ αἰτοῦμέν σε, Ἱερομάρτυς Ἐλευθέριε· Τοὺς πόθῳ σου τὴν μνήμην ἑορτάζοντας, κινδύνων πολυτρόπων ἐλευθέρωσον, πρεσβεύων ἀπαύστως, ὑπὲρ πάντων ἡμῶν.

You the adornment of the priesthood, O righteous one, * and the encouragement of prize-winning martyr saints * are extolled by all. To you we pray, * O hieromartyr Eleftherios, * to free us who with love observe your memory * from every kind of dangerous predicament, * and unceasingly intercede on behalf of us all. [SD]

O compassionate Giver of Life, only tender-loving and benevolent God, look upon the darkness of my soul, and by Your almighty right hand, O Word, free me from the shameful passions, so that I may extol Your hierarch Eleftherios. Truly he was known by You from the womb, and like Samuel he was sanctified and dedicated to You, the Creator, by a holy mother. And he unceasingly intercedes on behalf of us all. [SD]

Τῇ ΙΕʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μηνὸς ἄθλησις τοῦ ἁγίου Ἱερομάρτυρος Ἐλευθερίου.

On December 15 was the contest of the holy Hieromartyr Eleftherios.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἡ ἁγία Ἀνθία, ἡ μήτηρ τοῦ ἁγίου Ἐλευθερίου, περιχυθεῖσα τῷ τοῦ υἱοῦ νεκρῷ, ξίφει τελειοῦται.

On this day Saint Anthia, mother of Saint Eleftherios, died by the sword as she was holding her son’s dead body.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὁ ἅγιος Κορέμμων, ὁ ἔπαρχος, πιστεύσας τῷ Χριστῷ καὶ βαπτισθείς, ξίφει τελειοῦται.

On this day Saint Coremmon the Eparch died by the sword after he believed in Christ and was baptized.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ οἱ δύο Δήμιοι, οἱ πιστεύσαντες τῷ Χριστῷ, ξίφει τελειοῦνται.

On this day the two Executioners who believed in Christ died by the sword.

Young men and maidens, elders with younger, let them praise the Lord’s name, for His name alone is exalted.

As the namesake of liberty, O Father, you were counted worthy of sacerdotal vestments; and you boldly taught the true religion, and likewise you instructed us in the reasons for what we should do. When you demonstrated a martyr’s resistance, even as a young man, you became illustrious in both martyrdom and priesthood, and you received a double crown from Christ our God. Great Doxology

Δόξα σοι τῷ δείξαντι τὸ φῶς. Δόξα ἐν ὑψίστοις Θεῷ καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς εἰρήνη, ἐν ἀνθρώποις εὐδοκία.

Glory be to You who showed the light. Glory in the highest to God. His peace is on earth, His good pleasure in mankind. [SD]

Ὑμνοῦμέν σε, εὐλογοῦμέν σε, προσκυνοῦμέν σε, δοξολογοῦμέν σε, εὐχαριστοῦμέν σοι, διὰ τὴν μεγάλην σου δόξαν.

We praise You, we bless You, we worship You, we glorify You, we give thanks to You for Your great glory.
