|
The memory of the just is observed with hymns of praise; for you suffices the testimony of the Lord, O Forerunner. You have proved to be truly more ven’rable than the Prophets, since you were granted to baptize in the river the One whom they proclaimed. Therefore, when for the truth you had contested, rejoicing, to those in Hades you preached the Gospel, that God was manifested in the flesh, and takes away the sin of the world, and grants to us the great mercy. [SD] |

In you, O Father, is preserved undistorted what was made in the image of God; for taking up the cross, you followed Christ and by example taught, that we should overlook the flesh, since it passes away, and instead look after the soul, since it is immortal. And therefore, O devout Patapius, your spirit rejoices with the angels. [SD] |
The Apolytikion of the parish church is sung. Then: |

THE READINGS |
|
Prokeimenon. Grave Mode. Psalm 63. |
The righteous man shall be glad in the Lord, and shall hope in Him. [SAAS] |
Verse: Hear my voice, O God, in my supplication. [SAAS] |
|
The Epistle |
|
Tuesday of the 28th Week |
The reading is from Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy. |
|
2 Tim. 3:16 – 17; 4:1 – 4 |
Timothy, my son, all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. I charge you in the presence of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. [RSV] |
|
|
|
Alleluia. Mode 2. Psalm 91. |
Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. |
Verse 1: The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree; he shall be multiplied like the cedar in Lebanon. [SAAS] |
Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. |
Verse 2: Those planted in the house of the Lord shall blossom forth in the courts of our God. |
Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. |

The Gospel |
|
Tuesday of the 12th Week of Luke |
The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Luke. |
|
Lk. 21:12 – 19 |
The Lord said to his disciples, “Beware of men; for they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. This will be a time for you to bear testimony. Settle it therefore in your minds, not to meditate beforehand how to answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put to death; you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.” [RSV] |

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos. |
