Ἤ, ἀντὶ τῶν Ἀντιφώνων, κατὰ τὸ τυπικόν, ψάλλονται τὰ Τυπικὰ καὶ οἱ Μακαρισμοί.

Ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου μνήσθητι ἡμῶν Κύριε, ὅταν ἔλθῃς ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου. Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Μακάριοι οἱ πρᾳεῖς, ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσι τὴν γῆν.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες καὶ διψῶντες τὴν δικαιοσύνην, ὅτι αὐτοὶ χορτασθήσονται.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Μακάριοι οἱ ἐλεήμονες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἐλεηθήσονται.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Διὰ ξύλου ὁ Ἀδάμ, Παραδείσου γέγονεν ἄποικος, διὰ ξύλου δὲ Σταυροῦ, ὁ Λῃστὴς Παράδεισον ᾤκησεν· ὁ μὲν γὰρ γευσάμενος, ἐντολὴν ἠθέτησε τοῦ ποιήσαντος, ὁ δὲ συσταυρούμενος, Θεὸν ὡμολόγησε τὸν κρυπτόμενον. Μνήσθητί μου βοῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

Adam fell by a tree, and he was evicted from Paradise. * By the tree of the Cross the Robber gained entrance to Paradise. * The former, by tasting fruit, disobeyed his Maker’s commandment not to eat. * The latter was crucified with Him, whom though hidden he confessed to be God. * Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior. [SD]

Μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ, ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν Θεὸν ὄψονται.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Ὁ ὑψωθεὶς ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ, καὶ τοῦ θανάτου λύσας τὴν δύναμιν, καὶ ἐξαλείψας ὡς Θεός, τὸ καθ’ ἡμῶν χειρόγραφον Κύριε, Λῃστοῦ τὴν μετάνοιαν, καὶ ἡμῖν παράσχου μόνε φιλάνθρωπε, τοῖς πίστει λατρεύουσι, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, καὶ βοῶσί σοι· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

You were lifted on the Cross and destroyed the power of death on us, * and You set aside the bond which stood against us and, as God, cancelled it. * Grant that we may also have the Robber’s repentance, O benevolent Lord. * We faithfully worship You, O Christ our God, and we cry aloud to You, * “Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior.” [SD]

Μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί, ὅτι αὐτοὶ Υἱοὶ Θεοῦ κληθήσονται.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Τὸ χειρόγραφον ἡμῶν, ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ τῇ λόγχῃ διέῤῥηξας, καὶ λογισθεὶς ἐν τοῖς νεκροῖς, τὸν ἐκεῖσε τύραννον ἔδησας, ῥυσάμενος ἅπαντας, ἐκ δεσμῶν τοῦ ᾅδου τῇ Ἀναστάσει σου, διʼ ἧς ἐφωτίσθημεν, φιλάνθρωπε Κύριε, καὶ βοῶμέν σοι· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

You have set aside the bond which stood against us, shredding it by Your Cross. * When You were numbered with the dead, You disarmed and bound the tyrant ruling there, * delivering everyone from the bonds of death by Your resurrection; * through which we were illumined. And we cry out to You, O benevolent Lord, * “Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior.” [SD]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Ὁ σταυρωθεὶς καὶ ἀναστάς, ὡς δυνατὸς ἐκ τάφου τριήμερος, καὶ τὸν πρωτόπλαστον Ἀδάμ, ἐξαναστήσας μόνε ἀθάνατε, κᾀμὲ εἰς μετάνοιαν, ἐπιστρέψαι Κύριε καταξίωσον, ἐξ ὅλης καρδίας μου, καὶ ἐν θερμῇ τῇ πίστει ἀεὶ κραυγάζειν σοι· Μνήσθητί μου Σωτήρ, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

You were crucified and rose * from the grave on the third day, O mighty One, * and resurrected with yourself * the first-formed man, Adam, O immortal One. * Now I pray You earnestly, Grant me to return to You, Master, in sincere * repentance wholeheartedly, * and to ever cry out to You in ardent faith: * Remember me as well in Your kingdom, O Savior. [SD]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Διʼ ἡμᾶς ὁ ἀπαθής, παθητὸς ἐγένετο ἄνθρωπος, καὶ ἑκουσίως ἐν Σταυρῷ, προσηλωθεὶς ἡμᾶς συνανέστησε· διὸ καὶ δοξάζομεν, σὺν τῷ Σταυρῷ τὸ Πάθος καὶ τὴν Ἀνάστασιν, διʼ ὧν ἀνεπλάσθημεν, διʼ ὧν καὶ σῳζόμεθα ἀνακράζοντες· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

For us impassible God * became man and thus became passible. * He was crucified for us * of His own will, and He raised us with himself. * And therefore we glorify His Passion, the Cross and His rising from the dead. * Through these we were formed again; * through these we are saved, as we cry aloud to Him: * “Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior.” [SD]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Τὸν ἀναστάντα ἐκ νεκρῶν, καὶ τὸ τοῦ ᾅδου κράτος σκυλεύσαντα, καὶ ὁραθέντα γυναιξί, Μυροφόροις λέγοντα· Χαίρετε, πιστοὶ δυσωπήσωμεν, ἐκ φθορᾶς λυτρώσασθαι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν, κραυγάζοντες πάντοτε, Λῃστοῦ τοῦ εὐγνώμονος τὴν φωνὴν πρὸς αὐτόν. Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

To Him who rose from the dead, * having despoiled Hades’ dominion, * and who appeared and said, “Rejoice,” * to the myrrh-bearing women; to Christ our God * let us the believers pray, * asking Him to rescue our souls from corruption. * And let us unceasingly * shout to Him the words that the grateful Robber said: * “Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior.” [SD]

Τὸν Πατέρα καὶ Υἱόν, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα πάντες τὸ Ἅγιον, ὁμοφρόνως οἱ πιστοί, δοξολογεῖν ἀξίως εὐξώμεθα, Μονάδα Θεότητος, ἐν τρισὶν ὑπάρχουσαν ὑποστάσεσιν, ἀσύγχυτον μένουσαν, ἁπλῆν ἀδιαίρετον καὶ ἀπρόσιτον, διʼ ἧς ἐκλυτρούμεθα, τοῦ πυρὸς τῆς κολάσεως.

All believers, let us pray that we be of one mind and worthily * sing praises glorifying God, Father, Son, and Spirit, the Trinity, * united divinity, which exists forever in three hypostases, * remaining unconfused, simple, indivisible, unapproachable, * by whom we are delivered from the fire of perdition. Τὴν Μητέρα σου Χριστέ, τὴν ἐν σαρκὶ ἀσπόρως τεκοῦσάν σε, καὶ Παρθένον ἀληθῶς, καὶ μετὰ τόκον μείνασαν ἄφθορον, αὐτήν σοι προσάγομεν, εἰς πρεσβείαν Δέσποτα πολυέλεε, πταισμάτων συγχώρησιν, δώρησαι πάντοτε τοῖς βοῶσί σοι· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

O Christ our God, we present, as an intercessor to pray for us, * Your Virgin Mother who conceived without seed and physically gave birth to You, * and after the childbirth remained incorrupt, O most merciful Lord. * She prays that You always grant forgiveness of offenses to those who cry aloud, * “Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior.” [SD]

Τὸ φαιδρὸν τῆς ἀναστάσεως κήρυγμα, ἐκ τοῦ Ἀγγέλου μαθοῦσαι αἱ τοῦ Κυρίου Μαθήτριαι, καὶ τὴν προγονικὴν ἀπόφασιν ἀποῤῥίψασαι, τοῖς Ἀποστόλοις καυχώμεναι ἔλεγον· Ἐσκύλευται ὁ θάνατος, ἠγέρθη Χριστὸς ὁ Θεός, δωρούμενος τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

When the women disciples of the Lord heard the Angel joyously proclaim the resurrection, they cast aside the ancestral verdict, and boasting in glory they said to the Apostles, “Death has been despoiled! Christ God has risen, granting the great mercy to the world!” [GOASD]

Οἱ Μάρτυρές σου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ ἀθλήσει αὐτῶν, στεφάνους ἐκομίσαντο τῆς ἀφθαρσίας, ἐκ σοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν· σχόντες γὰρ τὴν ἰσχύν σου, τοὺς τυράννους καθεῖλον, ἔθραυσαν καὶ δαιμόνων, τὰ ἀνίσχυρα θράση. Αὐτῶν ταῖς ἱκεσίαις, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, σῶσον τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

Your Martyrs, O Lord, were worthily awarded by You * the crowns of incorruption, in that they contested for You our immortal God. * Since they possessed Your power, they defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at their fervent entreaties, save our souls. [SD]

O Protection of Christians that never falls, intercession with the Creator that never fails, we sinners beg you, do not ignore the voices of our prayers. O good Lady, we implore you, quickly come unto our aid, when we cry out to you with faith. Hurry to intercession, and hasten to supplication, O Theotokos who protect now and ever those who honor you. Brethren, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἐλθόντι τῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν Γαδαρηνῶν ὑπήντησεν αὐτῷ ἀνήρ τις ἐκ τῆς πόλεως, ὃς εἶχε δαιμόνια ἐκ χρόνων ἱκανῶν, καὶ ἱμάτιον οὐκ ἐνεδιδύσκετο καὶ ἐν οἰκίᾳ οὐκ ἔμενεν, ἀλλ᾿ ἐν τοῖς μνήμασιν. ἰδὼν δὲ τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἀνακράξας προσέπεσεν αὐτῷ καὶ φωνῇ μεγάλῃ εἶπε· τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ, υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου; δέομαί σου, μή με βασανίσῃς. παρήγγειλε γὰρ τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ ἐξελθεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. πολλοῖς γὰρ χρόνοις συνηρπάκει αὐτόν, καὶ ἐδεσμεῖτο ἁλύσεσι καὶ πέδαις φυλασσόμενος, καὶ διαρρήσσων τὰ δεσμὰ ἠλαύνετο ὑπὸ τοῦ δαίμονος εἰς τὰς ἐρήμους. ἐπηρώτησε δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· τί σοί ἐστιν ὄνομα; ὁ δὲ εἶπε· λεγεών· ὅτι δαιμόνια πολλὰ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς αὐτόν· καὶ παρεκάλει αὐτὸν ἵνα μὴ ἐπιτάξῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον ἀπελθεῖν. ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ ἀγέλη χοίρων ἱκανῶν βοσκομένων ἐν τῷ ὄρει· καὶ παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιτρέψῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς ἐκείνους εἰσελθεῖν· καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν αὐτοῖς. ἐξελθόντα δὲ τὰ δαιμόνια ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰσῆλθον εἰς τοὺς χοίρους, καὶ ὥρμησεν ἡ ἀγέλη κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν λίμνην καὶ ἀπεπνίγη. ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ βόσκοντες τὸ γεγενημένον ἔφυγον, καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ εἰς τοὺς ἀγρούς. ἐξῆλθον δὲ ἰδεῖν τὸ γεγονός, καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ εὗρον καθήμενον τὸν ἄνθρωπον, ἀφ᾿ οὗ τὰ δαιμόνια ἐξεληλύθει, ἱματισμένον καὶ σωφρονοῦντα παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν. ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτοῖς οἱ ἰδόντες πῶς ἐσώθη ὁ δαιμονισθείς. καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν ἅπαν τὸ πλῆθος τῆς περιχώρου τῶν Γαδαρηνῶν ἀπελθεῖν ἀπ᾿ αὐτῶν, ὅτι φόβῳ μεγάλῳ συνείχοντο. αὐτὸς δὲ ἐμβὰς εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ὑπέστρεψεν. ἐδέετο δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ ἀνήρ, ἀφ᾿ οὗ ἐξεληλύθει τὰ δαιμόνια, εἶναι σὺν αὐτῷ· ἀπέλυσε δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· ὑπόστρεφε εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου καὶ διηγοῦ ὅσα ἐποίησέ σοι ὁ Θεός. καὶ ἀπῆλθε καθ᾿ ὅλην τὴν πόλιν κηρύσσων ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς.

At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me.” For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

May He who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the holy and glorious Martyrs and Notaries Marcian and Martyrius, whose memory we are observing, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
