Brethren, Christ is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him, provided that you continue in the fight, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which has been preached to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. The Lord said to his disciples, “Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is to be delivered in to the hands of men.” But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying. And an argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. But when Jesus perceived the thought of their hearts, he took a child and put him by his side, and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me; for he who is least among you all is the one who is great.” John answered, “Master, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us.” But Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid him; for he that is not against you is for you.” [RSV]

Brethren, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, “He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever.” He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. [RSV]

And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God. Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων Μαρτύρων Γαῒου, Δασίου καὶ Ζωτικοῦ.	On this day we commemorate the holy martyrs Gaius, Dasius and Zoticus.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων νεοφανῶν Μαρτύρων Ἀνδρέου, Στεφάνου, Παύλου καὶ Πέτρου.	On this day we commemorate the newly revealed martyrs Andrew, Stephen, Paul and Peter.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῆς ἁγίας Μάρτυρος Θεοδότης, καὶ Σωκράτους Πρεσβυτέρου.	On this day we commemorate the holy martyr Theodota, and Socrates the Presbyter.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὁ ἅγιος Μάρτυς Εὐκράτης, ξίφει τελειοῦται.	On this day the holy martyr Efcrates died by the sword.
Μνήμη τοῦ ὁσίου Πατρὸς ἡμῶν Φιλοθέου, τοῦ ἀσκήσαντος εν τῷ τοῦ Ἄθω ὄρει.	We commemorate our devout father Philotheus of Mount Athos.
Μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου Νεομάρτυρος Ἰωάννου τοῦ ἐκ Μονεμβασίας, τελειωθέντος ἐν ταῖς βασάνοις κατὰ τὴν Λάρισαν, ἐν ἔτει ᾳψογʹ (1773).	We also commemorate the holy New Martyr John from Monemvasia, who died by torture in Larissa in 1773.
