And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, “Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” And he said to her, “For this saying you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” And she went home, and found the child lying in bed, and the demon gone. Καὶ γὰρ ἐν ὄψει ἀνθρώπων ἐὰν κολασθῶσιν, ἡ ἐλπὶς αὐτῶν ἀθανασίας πλήρης. Καὶ ὀλίγα παιδευθέντες, μεγάλα εὐεργετηθήσονται, ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς ἐπείρασεν αὐτούς, καὶ εὗρεν αὐτοὺς ἀξίους ἑαυτοῦ. The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torture will ever touch them. In the eyes of the undiscerning they seemed to have died, and their departure was considered to be misfortune, and their passage from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in man’s view they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Though chastened in a few things, great kindness will be shown them, for God tested them and found them worthy of Himself. He tested them like gold in a furnace and accepted them as a whole burnt offering. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and they will run about like sparks through straw. They will judge nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord shall reign over them unto the ages. Those who trust in Him will understand truth, and the faithful shall continue with Him in love, because grace and mercy are upon His elect [and He watches over His holy ones]. [SAAS]

The righteous live forever, and their reward is with the Lord; and their care is by the Most High. Therefore they shall receive a kingly dwelling of dignity and a crown of beauty from the hand of the Lord, because He will shelter them with His right hand and protect them with His arm. He will take His zeal as His full armor and will turn His creation into weapons against His enemies. He will wear righteousness as a breastplate and put on impartial judgment as a helmet. He will take holiness as an unconquerable shield and sharpen His relentless wrath for a sword; and creation will fight with Him against the senseless. Well-aimed flashes of lightning will strike and leap to their object as from a well-drawn bow of clouds; and hailstones full of anger will be hurled as from an engine of war. The water of the sea will be vexed with them, and the rivers will wash over them severely. A powerful wind will oppose them, and like a storm it will winnow them away. Lawlessness will lay waste all the earth, and wrongdoing will overturn the thrones of rulers. Listen therefore, O kings, and understand; learn, O judges of the ends of the earth. Give ear, you that rule over multitudes, and take pride in yourself over a multitude of nations. For power was given to you from the Lord, and your lordship from the Most High. [SAAS]

Brethren, recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one in heaven. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that you may do the will of God and receive what is promised. “For yet a little while, and the coming one shall come and shall not tarry; but my righteous one shall live by faith.” [RSV]

For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household.” And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities. Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῆς ἁγίας Μάρτυρος Ἀγαθοκλείας.	On this day we commemorate the holy martyr Agathocleia.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων Μαρτύρων Μαξίμου, Θεοδότου, καὶ Ἀσκληπιοδότης.	On this day we commemorate the holy martyrs Maximus, Theodotus and Asclepiodote.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῆς ἁγίας Λουκίας καὶ Γεμινιανοῦ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς καὶ Μάρτυρος.	On this day, we commemorate Saint Lucia and her son, the martyr Germinianus.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῆς ἁγίας Μάρτυρος Θεοδότης.	On this day we commemorate the holy martyr Theodota.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων ἑκατὸν Μαρτύρων.	On this day we commemorate the holy 100 martyrs.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῶν ἁγίων Μαρτύρων Χαραλάμπους, Παντολέοντος καὶ τῆς συνοδίας αὐτῶν. Τελεῖται ἡ τούτων σύναξις ἐν τῷ Μαρτυρείῳ αὐτῶν, τῷ ὄντι ἐν τῷ Δευτέρῳ.	On this day we remember the holy martyrs Charalambos, Pantoleon and those with them. The synaxis in their honor was held in their martyrium, which was in Deuterus.
