In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Ἡ γῆ ἡ κατάκαρπος, ἐκ γῆς ἀκάρπου γεννᾶται, ἥτις καρπογονήσει, τὸν γεωργὸν τῶν ἀγαθῶν, καὶ ζωηφόρον ἄσταχυν, τὸν τρέφοντα πάντας θείῳ νεύματι.

From fruitless earth is born the very fruitful earth, which will produce the Farmer of blessings, the vivifying ear of grain that feeds all by the command of God. [GOASD]

Μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ, ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν Θεὸν ὄψονται.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Σήμερον ἐβλάστησε, τῆς Παρθενίας ἡ ῥάβδος, ἐξ ἧς ἀνθήσει ἄνθος, ὁ φυτουργὸς ἡμῶν Θεός, τὰ πονηρὰ βλαστήματα, ἀποτέμνων ἄκρᾳ ἀγαθότητι.

The rod of virginity has blossomed forth today, and from it will bloom a flower, namely our God and Planter, who in supreme benevolence cuts down the outgrowths of evil. [GOASD]

Μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί, ὅτι αὐτοὶ Υἱοὶ Θεοῦ κληθήσονται.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Ἴδε τὸ ἀλάξευτον, ὄρος ἐκ πέτρας ἀγόνου, ἀποτεχθὲν τὸν λίθον, καρπογονεῖ τὸν νοητόν, ὃς συντριβὴν ἐργάσεται, τῶν ξοάνων πάντων τοῦ ἀλάστορος.

Behold, born from a childless rock is the unquarried mountain, which will produce the spiritual Stone, who will crush all the idols of the evil one. [GOASD]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Νόμου προχαράγματα, σὲ προεδήλωσαν Κόρη· τὸν νομοδότην σὺ γάρ, νομίμων δίχα ἐν γαστρί, κυοφορεῖς τηροῦντά σε, ὑπὲρ λόγον ἄφθορον ἀμίαντον.

O Virgin, the writings in the Law predicted you. You carry in your womb the Giver of the Law, without the laws of nature, and He ineffably preserved you unharmed and undefiled. [GOASD]

Τὴν θείαν ταύτην.

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Ἐτέχθη σήμερον γέφυρα, μετάγουσα πρὸς φῶς τὸ ἀνθρώπινον, κλῖμαξ οὐράνιος, ὄρος Θεοῦ ἐμφανέστατον, ἡ Θεοτόκος Κόρη ἣν μακαρίσωμεν.

The virgin Theotokos is born today. She is the bridge that leads humanity to the light, the heavenly ladder, the manifest mountain of God, and we call her blessed. [GOASD]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Ὁ κόχλος Ἄννα προήγαγε, πορφύραν τὴν τὸ ἔριον βάψασαν, τῆς σωματώσεως, τοῦ Βασιλέως εἰς ὕστερον, ἣν ἐπαξίως πάντες ὑμνολογήσωμεν.

Anna is like a shell-fish that produces royal purple dye. For Mary’s blood will dye the wool of the incarnation of the King. Let us all extol her worthily. [GOASD]

Πηγὴ νυνὶ προελήλυθε, ῥανίδος ἐκ μικρᾶς ἡ Πανάμωμος, ἥτις τὴν ἄβυσσον, τῆς σωτηρίας κυήσασα, πολυθεΐας παύσει ἄπειρα ῥεύματα.

From a small drop has now come the well, namely the all-blameless Virgin, who will give birth to the ocean of salvation and put an end to the many streams of paganism. [GOASD]

O ever-blessed virgin Mother of God, you sprouted from an unfruitful root, and eradicated the thorns of evil, by the divine shoot that supernaturally came from you. [GOASD]

Your Martyr, O Lord, was worthily awarded by You * the crown of incorruption, in that he contested for You our immortal God. * Since he possessed Your power, he defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at his fervent entreaties, save our souls. On this day the virgin Maid, Mary the true Theotokos, * the inviolate bridal room of the heavenly Bridegroom, * by the will of God is born of a barren woman, * to prepare to be the carriage of God the Logos, * as for this she had been destined, * to be the gateway of God and Mother of Life. And with him the rest of the Jews acted insincerely, so that even Barnabas was carried away by their insincerity. But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “if you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?” We ourselves, who are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, yet who know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. At that time, a great crowd followed Jesus and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well.” And immediately the hemorrhage ceased; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone forth from him, immediately turned about in the crowd, and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had been done to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

Εἴδομεν τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινόν, ἐλάβομεν Πνεῦμα ἐπουράνιον, εὕρομεν πίστιν ἀληθῆ, ἀδιαίρετον Τριάδα προσκυνοῦντες· αὕτη γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἔσωσεν.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

Χριστὸς ὁ ἀληθινὸς Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ταῖς πρεσβείαις τῆς παναχράντου καὶ παναμώμου ἁγίας αὐτοῦ Μητρός, δυνάμει τοῦ τιμίου καὶ ζωοποιοῦ Σταυροῦ, προστασίαις τῶν τιμίων ἐπουρανίων δυνάμεων ἀσωμάτων, ἱκεσίαις τοῦ τιμίου, ἐνδόξου, προφήτου, προδρόμου καὶ βαπτιστοῦ Ἰωάννου, τῶν ἁγίων ἐνδόξων καὶ πανευφήμων ἀποστόλων, τῶν ἁγίων ἐνδόξων καὶ καλλινίκων μαρτύρων· τῶν ὁσίων καὶ θεοφόρων πατέρων ἡμῶν· (τοῦ ἁγίου τοῦ ναοῦ)· τῶν ἁγίων καὶ δικαίων θεοπατόρων Ἰωακεὶμ καὶ Ἄννης, καὶ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων, ἐλεήσαι καὶ σώσαι ἡμᾶς, ὡς ἀγαθὸς καὶ φιλάνθρωπος καὶ ἐλεήμων Θεός.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
