Come all, and let us sing sacred hymns as we celebrate * the return of the holy Relic of St. Dionysius, * for like the sun, according to the laws * of nature, it had set beneath the earth. * But again it has arisen and shines like dawn * resplendently throughout the world. * “Glory to Christ who glorified you! * Glory to Him who made you marvelous! * Glory to Him who gave you grace to help us all by many miracles!” [GOASD] |

The Master knew your soul to be pure, O wise father. * He elevated you to the see of Aegina. * From there you shone brilliantly like the sun that is luminous. * With your radiance you rid your flock of the darkness * of their trespasses, and as a shepherd you led them * to Christ the unwaning light. 10:1 – 9 |
Jn. 10:1 – 9 |
The Lord said to the Jews who had come to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber; but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” [RSV] |

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. Come, all believers, join the people of Zakynthos, * participating in the yearly festivities, * by singing sacred hymns and songs in honor of the day * celebrating the return of the eminent relic * of the Island’s patron Saint, who illumines the whole world. * And as we venerate him, let us cry aloud, * “We all salute you, O St. Dionysius.” [GOASD] |

You took to heart the words of Christ the Teacher, and you took up His cross on your shoulders. You took the straight and narrow way of this life and never strayed. Discarding the weight kin, possessions, and all other earthly pleasures, alone on the mountains with purified mind, you conversed with God who alone is pure by nature. Then you were seen as new shining star, both alive and after dying, for the Lord, whom you worshiped on earth in purity, glorified your venerable body with incorruptibility, and He gave it to your homeland as a precious gift. Today, as we venerate it, we cry aloud, “We all salute you, O St. Dionysius.” [GOASD] |

Moses prefigured the Cross. * Lifting up the rod, he stretched out his hand and split the Sea for Israel to cross on land. * Then he stretched it out again, * and the sea returned and covered Pharaoh’s chariots. * The Cross was thus portrayed as our invincible armor. * So let us sing to the Lord, * Christ our God, for He is greatly glorified. The rod of Aaron is seen as typifying the mystery; * for it budded, and thus was the priest selected. * Now in the Church, that was barren once, the Cross of Christ, like a tree, * has blossomed forth, * as power and a firm support. [GOASD] |

Tree of the Cross, you are thrice-blessed, * for Jesus Christ, who is King and Lord, was crucified on you. * Through you fallen is the one who by a tree deceived us, * for he was lured by God who in the flesh indeed * was hung and nailed to you, * and who grants to our souls His peace. [GOASD] |

In the belly of the sea beast * the prophet Jonah prayed with his arms extended crosswise; * thus he clearly prefigured the saving Passion of Christ. * When after three days he emerged, * he was depicting the supernal resurrection from the dead * of Christ God, who was physically nailed to the Cross * and by His third-day arising illumined the universe. |
The impious tyrant’s preposterous decree disturbed the populace, * breathing threats and blasphemous pronouncements hateful to God. * His brutal anger did not intimidate * the three Servants, nor did the consuming fire. * But when the dew-laden breeze whistled against the fire, they joined it and together sang, * “Blessed are You, O Lord. You are highly praised, O God, the God of our fathers.” [GOASD] |

You three pious Servants, * same in number as the Trinity, * bless God the Father, Maker of all; * sing a hymn to the Word who condescended * and who changed the fire in the furnace into dew; * as for the all-holy Spirit, who gives life to all, exalt Him * beyond measure unto the ages. [GOASD] |

Let us sound the trumpet of sacred song and festively applaud. Let us leap with joy, for the annual celebration of the translation of the relic of our God-inspired father. Let priests and politicians come together, and let us all escort the venerable relic in procession around the city. Let us venerate it with a kiss, and let us solemnly extol him with ceremony and song. O shepherds and teachers, let us join in praising that holy shepherd, who imitated the Christ the Chief Shepherd. We who are sick, let us praise our physician; we who are in trouble, our helper; we sinners, our advocate; we who are poor, our provider; we who are clergy, our pastor; we who live alone, our companion; we are traveling, our navigator. And everyone, extol him who is all things to all people, yes, that most saintly Hierarch, and let us sing his praises and say to him, “All-holy father Dionysius, come and be with us who invoke your name, and protect the people of your island Zakynthos and all Christians, by your supplications.” [GOASD] |
