Brethren, as you excel in everything — in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for us — see that you excel in this gracious work also. I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I give my advice: it is best for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to desire, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not. I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality. As it is written, “He who gathered much has nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack.” [RSV]

At that time, the Pharisees held counsel with the Herodians against Jesus, how to destroy him. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they should crush him; for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him. Καὶ γὰρ ἐν ὄψει ἀνθρώπων ἐὰν κολασθῶσιν, ἡ ἐλπὶς αὐτῶν ἀθανασίας πλήρης. Καὶ ὀλίγα παιδευθέντες, μεγάλα εὐεργετηθήσονται, ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς ἐπείρασεν αὐτούς, καὶ εὗρεν αὐτοὺς ἀξίους ἑαυτοῦ. The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torture will ever touch them. In the eyes of the undiscerning they seemed to have died, and their departure was considered to be misfortune, and their passage from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in man’s view they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Though chastened in a few things, great kindness will be shown them, for God tested them and found them worthy of Himself. He tested them like gold in a furnace and accepted them as a whole burnt offering. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and they will run about like sparks through straw. They will judge nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord shall reign over them unto the ages. Those who trust in Him will understand truth, and the faithful shall continue with Him in love, because grace and mercy are upon His elect [and He watches over His holy ones]. [SAAS]

The righteous live forever, and their reward is with the Lord; and their care is by the Most High. Therefore they shall receive a kingly dwelling of dignity and a crown of beauty from the hand of the Lord, because He will shelter them with His right hand and protect them with His arm. He will take His zeal as His full armor and will turn His creation into weapons against His enemies. He will wear righteousness as a breastplate and put on impartial judgment as a helmet. He will take holiness as an unconquerable shield and sharpen His relentless wrath for a sword; and creation will fight with Him against the senseless. Well-aimed flashes of lightning will strike and leap to their object as from a well-drawn bow of clouds; and hailstones full of anger will be hurled as from an engine of war. The water of the sea will be vexed with them, and the rivers will wash over them severely. A powerful wind will oppose them, and like a storm it will winnow them away. Lawlessness will lay waste all the earth, and wrongdoing will overturn the thrones of rulers. Listen therefore, O kings, and understand; learn, O judges of the ends of the earth. Give ear, you that rule over multitudes, and take pride in yourself over a multitude of nations. For power was given to you from the Lord, and your lordship from the Most High. [SAAS]

Brethren, grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it is said, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Τῇ ΚΔʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μηνός, μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου Μάρτυρος Εὐτυχοῦς, μαθητοῦ τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἰωάννου τοῦ Θεολόγου καὶ τοῦ ἁγίου Ἀποστόλου Παύλου.	On August 24 we commemorate the holy Martyr Eftyches, disciple of St. John the Theologian and of the holy Apostle Paul.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου Μάρτυρος Τατίωνος.	On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Tatian.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τοῦ Ὁσίου Πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ Ὁμολογητοῦ Γεωργίου τοῦ Λιμνιώτου.	On this day we also commemorate our devout Father and Confessor George Limniotis.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἡ ἀνακομιδὴ τοῦ ἱεροῦ Λειψάνου τοῦ ἐν ἁγίοις Πατρὸς ἡμῶν Διονυσίου Ἀρχιεπισκόπου Αἰγίνης, καὶ ἡ τούτου ἐκ Στροφάδου νήσων εἰς Ζάκυνθον μετάθεσις.	On this day we also commemorate the translation of the holy Relic of our Father among the saints Dionysius Archbishop of Aegina, and its return from Strofades to Zakynthos.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου ἐνδόξου Ἱερομάρτυρος Κοσμᾶ τοῦ Ἰσαποστόλου, ἀθλήσαντος διʼ ἀγχόνης κατἀ τὀ ἔτος ͵αψοθʹ (1779).	On this day we also commemorate the holy new hieromartyr and Equal-to-the-Apostles Cosmas Aitolos, who contested in the year 1779 and died by hanging.
