Psalm 102.

Psalm 145.

The Beatitudes.

Mode 4.

In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV]

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [RSV]

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Troparia.

From Octoechos - - -

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Adam fell by a tree, and he was evicted from Paradise. * By the tree of the Cross the Robber gained entrance to Paradise. * The former, by tasting fruit, disobeyed his Maker’s commandment not to eat. * The latter was crucified with Him, whom though hidden he confessed to be God. * Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior. [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

You Apostles were indeed * reasonable livestock of Christ the Lamb * and the Shepherd, and by Him * you were sent as wise sheep amidst the wolves. * By preaching the word of God, * you subdued their wildness and tamed their savagery * and turned them to gentleness that comes with the Faith, and with certitude you cried: * “Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior.” [SD]

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

O Disciples of the Lord, * like resplendent stars you traversed the earth * and its people everywhere, * and you dispelled the gloom of idolatry, * and shined the salvific light * in the hearts of those who were formerly deceived. * And therefore we call you blessed, all-lauded heralds of Christ, and we entreat: * Intercede with the Lord evermore on our behalf. [SD]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

For the Martyrs.

Blessed Martyrs, being wise, * you were killed for Christ; and as you were burnt * in the material fire, * you burned up the substance of pagan gods. * And now you are gushing forth * streams of cures and healing to all who come to you * with faith in the living God, * fervently entreating and crying out to Christ, * “Remember us as well in Your heavenly kingdom.” [SD]

Glory.

As we concentrate the mind * with the watchful power of intellect, * let us say to God on high, * Father, Son, and Spirit who share the throne: * “Undivided Trinity, * You brought all things into existence by the word, * and now You illumine all * who with faith and reverence cry aloud to You, * ‘Remember us as well in Your heavenly kingdom.’” [SD]

Both now. Theotokion.

All-blameless Mother of God, * truly the delight of Apostles all, * and the never-fading crown * of the Martyr Saints for their victories, * O Lady, we pray you now, * join them in entreating that we may be released * from sins and that we repent and thus make amends, as we cry to you with faith, * “Treasure that truly stores every blessing, O rejoice!” [SD]

Entrance Hymn. Mode 2.

For the Apostles.

O holy Apostles, make intercession to our merciful God, that He grant our souls forgiveness of offenses. [SD]

For St. Nicholas.

Mode 4.

A rule of faith are you, and an icon of gentleness, and a teacher of self-control. And to your flock this was evident, by the truth of your life and deeds. You were humble and therefore you acquired exalted gifts, treasure in heaven for being poor. O Father and Hierarch St. Nicholas, intercede with Christ our God, and entreat Him to save our souls. [SD]

The Apolytikion of the parish church is sung. Then:

Kontakion for the Day. For the Apostles.

Mode 2. Automelon.

Τοὺς ἀσφαλεῖς.

You have taken to yourself, O Lord, the pinnacles of Your Disciples, those unerring theologians and preachers, to enjoy Your blessings and repose. For You accepted their labors and their death as being higher than any whole-burnt offering, for only You know what is in the heart. [SD]

THE READINGS

Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 4. Psalm 18.

Their proclamation went forth into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. [SAAS]

Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament shows the creation of His hands. [SAAS]

The Epistle

Thursday of the 6th Week

The reading is from Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians.

1 Cor. 3:18 – 23

Brethren, let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” So let no one boast of men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future, all are yours; and you are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s. [RSV]

Alleluia. Mode 1. Psalm 88.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Verse 1: The heavens shall confess Your wonders, O Lord. [SAAS]

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Verse 2: God is glorified in the counsel of saints.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

The Gospel

Thursday of the 6th Week of Matthew

The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Mt. 13:36 – 43

At that time, Jesus went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

Communion Hymn. Psalm 18.

Their proclamation went forth into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. Alleluia. [SAAS]

Hymn after Holy Communion.

Mode 2.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

DISMISSAL

Glory to You, our God, glory to You.
