As a citizen of the desert and an angel incarnate * and a wonder-worker you shone forth, O Onoufrios, our God-bearing father. * Since you received the spiritual gifts * by fasting and vigilance and prayer, * you can cure those who are ailing and heal the souls * of those who run to you with faith. * Glory to Him who gave His might to you; * glory to Him who placed a crown on you; * glory to Him who operates through you, providing cures to all. [SD]

For the Cross.

When the Robber saw the Author of life hanging on the Cross, he said, “If He who is crucified with us were not God incarnate, the sun would not have hid its rays, nor would the earth have quaked and trembled. I pray You who endure everything, remember me, O Lord, in Your Kingdom.” [SD]

Verse: Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at the footstool of His feet; for He is holy.

Between the two robbers, Your Cross was a balance of justice. One was weighed down to hell by the weight of his blasphemy, the other floated up from his sins to the knowledge of theology. O Christ God, glory to You. [SD]

Mode pl. 4. When he perceived.

Τὸ προσταχθέν.

O noble Lady, when your Son, who was incarnated * from you, and to whom you gave birth incomprehensibly, * had been nailed to the Cross and hung between two convicts, * you watched, and your heart was aching, as you cried out * with motherly grief, “Alas, what is this divine * and ineffable plan, by which You brought Your creature back to life? * O Child of mine, I glorify Your compassion and benevolence.” [GOASD]

Ἀνέστης ἐκ νεκρῶν.

A tree once blossomed death in the middle of Eden. * The tree in the middle of the earth has produced life. * Tasting from the former, * we the incorrupt became corruptible, * whereas with the latter * we have delighted in incorruptibility. * For Christ our God has saved the human race * by means of His divine Cross. [SD]

Verse: God is our King before the ages; He worked salvation in the midst of the earth.

Τὸ προσταχθέν.

Of old the tree in the garden stripped us naked, * and by its taste did the enemy bring in death. * Now the tree of the Cross, which for all mankind is bearing * the garment of life, was planted upon the earth, * and therefore is all the world filled with every joy. * As we see it exalted now, let us, O peoples, cry aloud * together unto God in faith: * Full of glory is Your house, O Lord. [SD]

“Out of my blood, You have become a human being, * and now by Your blood, You are deifying those who * ate and died, and for whom You came down, and You sought them.” * So cried out the blameless Lady as she beheld * her Son, our Savior Christ, being crucified. * As she witnessed Him put to death, she shed a faucet of tears, * and even as she mourned for Him, she extolled Him as God most good. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. When you received the noetic and heavenly light within your heart, you became a vessel of the undefiled Trinity, O Onoufrios. And now you are numbered with the Angels, crying out: Alleluia. [SD]

Oikos.

O Love, the resplendent light! O Love, the sum of all the virtues! You ever fill the celestial hosts with gladness and with grace. You dwelt in all the Saints, the Patriarchs, Prophets, and Apostles. By their prayers dwell in us as well, so that we may join them in singing to God: Alleluia. [SD]

On June 12 we commemorate our devout Father Onouphrios of Egypt.

On this day we also commemorate the Holy Martyr Antonina.

On this day we commemorate Holy John the soldier; and our devout Fathers Zeno and Triphyllios the Bishop; and our devout Father Julian in Dagatos (or Dagazos).

By their holy intercessions, Christ God, have mercy on us. Amen.

We boast in you, immaculate Theotokos. * We have you as an advocate with the Godhead. * Stretch forth your hand, which is unassailable, * and crush our every enemy. * And send help to us your servants * from God’s holy place, O Lady. [SD]

Praise Him with the sound of trumpet; praise Him with the harp and lyre. [SAAS]

O God-bearing Father, you sought to behold the splendor of the Lord, and you longed to speak with Him one on one. So you renounced the world and went far away, and you dwelt in desert places and on mountains. Once you had put on Christ, you were no longer concerned about clothing, for you had traded it for the garment of incorruption. Wearing that, you entered the heavenly wedding hall, O devout St. Onoufrios, and you rejoice forever. [SD]
