God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

O holy Apostles, make intercession to our merciful God, that He grant our souls forgiveness of offenses. [SD]

Προφῆται προεκήρυξαν, Ἀπόστολοι ἐδίδαξαν, Μάρτυρες ὡμολόγησαν, καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐπιστεύσαμεν, Θεοτόκον σε κυρίως ὑπάρχουσαν· διὸ καὶ μεγαλύνομεν, τὸν τόκον σου τὸν ἄφραστον.

The Prophets proclaimed it beforehand, and the Apostles taught it; the Martyrs confessed it, and we have believed it: that you gave birth to God indeed, O Theotokos. And therefore we magnify your childbirth, which is ineffable. [SD]

Ἀναγινώσκεται τὸ οἰκεῖον Κάθισμα τοῦ Ψαλτηρίου, ἤτοι Κάθισμα 13. Μεθʼ ὃ ἡ μικρὰ Συναπτή.

The appointed Kathisma of the Psalter may be read, i.e. Kathisma 13. Then the short litany.

Help us, save us, have mercy on us, and protect us, O God, by Your grace.

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Ὡς φωστῆρας τοῦ κόσμου, καὶ ὁδηγούς, τῆς ἡμῶν σωτηρίας, τὰς ἀπαρχάς, τοὺς θείους ὑμνήσωμεν, μαθητὰς τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ὅτι φῶς τοῖς ἐν σκότει, ἡμῖν ἐξανέτειλαν, καὶ τὸν Ἥλιον πᾶσι, τῆς δόξης ἐγνώρισαν· ὅθεν καὶ τὴν πλάνην, τῶν εἰδώλων καθεῖλον, Τριάδα κηρύξαντες, ἐν μιᾷ τῇ Θεότητι. Let us sing hymns extolling our God’s divine * and all-honored disciples, who for the world * are luminaries guiding us, and our salvation’s first fruits. * They have shined out the light on to us who were in the dark, and they gave all the knowledge of Christ the glorious Sun. * Also they brought down the deception of the idols, * by preaching the Trinity which is one in divinity. * Let us therefore cry out to them, * “As Christ our God’s Apostles, entreat * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who with longing observe your holy memory.” [SD]

Holy Virgin, behold how my humble soul * in the storm of temptations of life is tossed, * with no one to pilot it, * overtaken by turbulence; * you see it overweight with the baggage of all my sins, * and even now in danger of crashing to the depths of hell. * Hasten, Theotokos, with your strong intercession, * and save me by steering me * to your port of tranquility, * that with faith I may cry to you: * Pray to Christ, your Son and our God, * that He grant me forgiveness of offenses. * For I, your servant, have you as my only hope. Φωστῆρες ὤφθητε λαμπροί, Χριστοῦ αὐτόπται, διὰ παντὸς πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν, φωταγωγοῦντες, καὶ σοβοῦντες τὸ σκότος, τῆς πολυθεΐας, τῷ φέγγει, τῆς εὐσεβείας τῶν διδαχῶν· διό με, τὸν ἐν τῷ σκότει τῶν ἡδονῶν, ἀδεῶς πορευόμενον, φωτίσατε τῷ φωτί, τῶν θείων προσευχῶν ὑμῶν, Θεοφόροι Ἀπόστολοι.

Holy eye-witnesses of Christ, you have appeared as * bright luminaries guiding all the earth to true light, * and dispelling the darkness of pagan religion * with radiance from your teaching the truth of God. * Now I, who am without scruples living my life * in the darkness of pleasures, pray that by the light of your divine * entreaties you enlighten me, * O God-bearing Apostles of Christ. Τὰς τοῦ Κυρίου ἐν ψυχῇ, παραγγελίας, ὡς θησαυρὸν πλουτοποιόν, πιστῶς λαβόντες, οἱ Ἀπόστολοι ὤφθησαν, πᾶσιν εὐεργέται, πτωχείαν ἀποσοβοῦντες, δαιμονικήν, καὶ πάντας, καταπλουτοῦντες πλούτῳ Θεοῦ, πρὸς οὓς πάντες βοήσωμεν· Πλουτίσατε καὶ ἡμᾶς, ἀρίσταις ἐργασίαις νῦν, πενομένους δεόμεθα.

When the Apostles faithfully received the Master’s * commandments in their souls, as if a treasure * that makes rich, they became for all men benefactors, * by making demonic poverty disappear * and making all people rich with the wealth of God. * Let us all now cry out to them, “We who are poor now entreat * that you enrich us spiritually, * by your labors most excellent.” [SD]

From every threat and wickedness of bad people * deliver us, we pray you, all-holy Virgin. * For we all have you as our shelter and ardent protectress. * And in you taking courage, we ever approach and bow before the Son you bore. * Will you implore Him to deliver us * from danger and adversity. Ἐλέησόν με, ὁ Θεός, κατὰ τὸ μέγα ἔλεός σου, καὶ κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν οἰκτιρμῶν σου ἐξάλειψον τὸ ἀνόμημά μου. Ἐπὶ πλεῖον πλῦνόν με ἀπὸ τῆς ἀνομίας μου, καὶ απὸ τῆς ἁμαρτίας μου καθάρισόν με. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. Ὤφθης μέγας ἥλιος τῇ Ἐκκλησίᾳ, διδαγμάτων λάμψεσι, καὶ θαυμασίων φοβερῶν, φωταγωγῶν τοὺς τιμῶντάς σε, Βαρθολομαῖε Κυρίου Ἀπόστολε.

O Apostle of the Lord, you are a great sun, * for your awesome miracles and teachings shine like brilliant rays * upon the Church as a guiding light * for those who honor you, holy Bartholomew. [SD]

Ἐμυήθης τοῦ Λόγου μαθητά, τοὺς λόγους τοὺς ἁγίους, καὶ τοὺς πάλαι ἀλογίᾳ δεινῶς καθυπαχθέντας τέκνα εἰργάσω τοῦ φωτός. Ἥπλωσας εἰς βάθη ἀγνωσίας τὰ σεπτὰ καὶ ἱερά σου δίκτυα, καὶ ἔλαβες τὰ ἔθνη ὑπήκοα, τὰς κεχερσωμένας ἀπάτῃ διανοίας ἐνέωσας τῷ θείῳ ἀρότρῳ. You were instructed in the holy words, O Disciple of the Word. By you, those who tragically once submitted to irrationality became children of light. You cast your holy and sacred nets into the sea of ignorance, and you pulled up the Gentiles who obeyed. With the plow of God, you cultivated minds that had become dry because of deceptive error. You extinguished the fire of paganism, and with the dew of your and cheerful and inspired preaching, you made the erstwhile children of wrath to be sons of God, O Apostle of the Lord, holy Bartholomew. [SD]

On June 11 we commemorate the Holy Apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ, ἡ Σύναξις τελεῖται τοῦ Ἀρχαγγέλου Γαβριὴλ ἐν τῷ ᾌδειν.

On this day we commemorate the Synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel in Adein on the Holy Mountain.

Ταῖς αὐτῶν ἁγίαις πρεσβείαις, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, ἐλέησον ἡμᾶς. Ἀμήν.

By their holy intercessions, Christ God, have mercy on us. Amen.

We praise and we bless and we worship the Lord.

Κάμινός ποτέ, πυρὸς ἐν Βαβυλῶνι, τὰς ἐνεργείας διεμέριζε, τῷ θείῳ προστάγματι, τοὺς Χαλδαίους καταφλέγουσα, τοὺς δὲ πιστοὺς δροσίζουσα ψάλλοντας· Εὐλογεῖτε πάντα τὰ ἔργα Κυρίου τὸν Κύριον.

As the Wisdom of God, the co-eternal Logos of the Father, said of old in the Gospels, you, O all-praised Apostles, are fruitful vines, whose branches bear ripe and delicious grapes. When we the faithful eat of them, they leave a pleasing taste. O God-inspired Bartholomew, and Barnabas, the son of consolation, earnestly intercede on behalf of our souls. [SD]

Great Doxology

Δόξα σοι τῷ δείξαντι τὸ φῶς. Δόξα ἐν ὑψίστοις Θεῷ καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς εἰρήνη, ἐν ἀνθρώποις εὐδοκία.

Glory be to You who showed the light. Glory in the highest to God. His peace is on earth, His good pleasure in mankind. [SD]

Ὑμνοῦμέν σε, εὐλογοῦμέν σε, προσκυνοῦμέν σε, δοξολογοῦμέν σε, εὐχαριστοῦμέν σοι, διὰ τὴν μεγάλην σου δόξαν.

We praise You, we bless You, we worship You, we glorify You, we give thanks to You for Your great glory.

Κύριε βασιλεῦ, ἐπουράνιε Θεέ, Πάτερ παντοκράτορ· Κύριε Υἱὲ μονογενές, Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, καὶ Ἅγιον Πνεῦμα.

Lord King, heavenly God, Father, Ruler over all; Lord, only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; and You, O Holy Spirit.
