Ἐκύκλωσεν ἡμᾶς.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Lord, You brought low the scorn of the wicked and put down their prideful arrogance. You revealed Your apostle to be a conqueror by Your might, for You are the strength and restoration of the weak. [OCA]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

By your words, wise Mark, you preached the Fashioner of creation, the Crown of hope with which we are now crowned, which was fashioned from the nature of the flesh for our glory. [OCA]

The pre-eminent Peter clearly taught you, glorious one, to record spiritually the precious Gospel. He showed you to be a servant of divine grace, for you shed the light of divine knowledge on us. [OCA]

Through the Virgin Mother of God You enlightened Egypt which had been in darkness. You entered it as an infant, O Lord, and reproved its vanity, Lover of mankind, through the teachings of the divinely-spoken Mark. [OCA]

Grave Mode.

The tomb being sealed, You rose from the sepulcher, O Christ God, the Life. And the doors being shut, You came to the disciples, O resurrection of all. Through them You renew a right spirit within us, according to Your great mercy. [GOASD]

O holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark, make intercession to our merciful God, that He grant our souls forgiveness of offenses.

1 Pet. 5:6 – 14

Brethren, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you. Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. Resist him, first in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and settle you. The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

Lk. 10:16 – 21

The Lord said to his disciples, “He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” In that same hour he rejoiced in the spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing before you.” [RSV]

Glory to You, our God, glory to You.

May He who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the holy and glorious Apostle and Evangelist Mark, whose memory we celebrate, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
