In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πρᾳεῖς, ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσι τὴν γῆν.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV]

Imprisoned fast in a tomb, * a man of circumscribed body, the God Uncircumscribed, * O Christ, You rose, and You stood, though the doors were shut * amidst Your disciples, Messiah All-Powerful. [TC]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Τοὺς μώλωπάς σου Χριστέ, οὓς ἑκουσίως ὑπέστης, ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν τοῖς Μαθηταῖς σου φυλάξας μαρτύριον, τῆς σῆς ἔδειξας, ἐνδόξου Ἀναστάσεως.

Your wounds, longsuffering Christ, * to which You freely submitted for our salvation, * You kept intact, and You showed your disciples there * as proof of Your awesome and glorious rising forth. [TC]

Κατῆλθες ἐν τοῖς κατωτάτοις.

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Ἰδοὺ σοι καὶ μία τερπνὴ χελιδών, θεοσύλλεκτε λαέ, τὴν τοῦ ἔαρος χάριν, ἀναπληροῖ θαυμαστῶς, ὁ Γεώργιος, καὶ συγχάρητε λοιπόν, τῇ χαρᾷ τούτου πάντες.

O people selected by God, behold how George, like a delightful swallow, amazingly completes the grace of spring for you. So all of you, now share in his joy! [SD]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Δριμείας βασάνους δεινῶν ἐνεγκών, ὡς τρυφὰς ταύτας ἡγοῦ, ὑπομένων Κυρίῳ, καὶ ψάλλων Ἔνδοξε· ἡ φωνὴ δέ σου, τῆς βροντῆς ἐν τῷ τροχῷ, τῶν εὐχῶν ἐξηχεῖτο.

O glorious George, you endured the harsh tortures and terrible sufferings, and you counted them to be pleasures, for you were waiting patiently for the Lord, and you sang; And on the wheel of torture, the voice of your prayers resounded like thunder. [SD]

Εὐφραίνου καὶ σκίρτα χορὸς Ἀθλητῶν, πανηγύρεως τῆς νῦν, εὑρηκότες ἐξάρχοντα τὸν Γεώργιον, καὶ ἀγάλλεσθε, σὺν αὐτῷ Δαυϊτικῶς· ἡμέρα γὰρ Κυρίου.

Rejoice and be glad, O choir of martyr athletes, for you have now have George as your leader in this festival. Exult with him, like David says, for this is the day of the Lord. [SD]

Καὶ τίκτεις, καὶ πάλιν ἁγνεύεις ὡς πρίν, φοβερὸς ὁ τοκετός, μητρανύμφευτε Κόρη, καὶ ἀνεκλάλητος, τὸν ὑπέρχρονον, βρεφωθέντα καθʼ ἡμᾶς, ὑπὲρ ἔννοιαν τίκτεις.

You give birth and you are chaste as before. O unwedded Virgin Mother, this childbirth of yours inspires awe and is beyond explanation. You incomprehensibly gave birth to Him who is beyond time, to the Lord who like us became a babe. [SD]

As the one renowned for setting captives free and for defending those in poverty, the physician of the sick and the champion of emperors, great and victorious Martyr George, intercede with Christ our God, beseeching Him to save our souls. [SD]

About that time, Herod the king laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the church. He killed James the brother of John with the sword; and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the Church. The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison; and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Wrap your mantle around you and follow me.” And he went out and followed him; he did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened to them of its own accord, and they went out and passed on through one street; and immediately the angel left him. And Peter came to himself, and said, “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.” [RSV]

The Lord said to his disciples, “This I command you, to love one another. If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. It is to fulfill the word that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without a cause.’ But when the Comforter comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me; and you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the beginning. Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

May He who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the holy and glorious Great-martyr George the Trophy-bearer, whose memory we celebrate, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
