Ὄμματι εὐσπλάγχνῳ Κύριε, ἴδε τὴν ἐμὴν ταπείνωσιν, ὅτι κατὰ μικρὸν ἡ ζωή μου δαπανᾶται, καὶ ἐξ ἔργων ἐμοὶ οὐχ ὑπάρχει σωτηρία· διὰ τοῦτο δέομαι· Ὄμματι εὐσπλάγχνῳ Κύριε, ἴδε τὴν ἐμὴν ταπείνωσιν, καὶ σῶσόν με.	O Lord, I beg You look at my low condition with a compassionate expression. For my life is passing little by little, and I have not done anything to merit salvation. Therefore I implore You: O Lord, look at my low condition with a compassionate expression, and save me. [GOASD]

As if the Judge were present, be anxious, O my soul, and keep in mind the thought of the hour of that fearful day. For the judgment is merciless to those who showed no mercy. Ὁ ὡραιότατος, καιρὸς ἐφέστηκεν, ἡ ἀξιέπαινος, ἡμέρα ἔλαμψε, τῆς ἐγκρατείας ἀδελφοί, σπουδάσωμεν καθαρθῆναι, ὅπως ἐποφθείημεν, καθαροὶ τῷ Ποιήσαντι, καὶ τῆς ὡραιότητος, τῆς αὐτοῦ ἐπιτύχωμεν, πρεσβείαις τῆς αὐτὸν κυησάσης, μόνης ἁγνῆς Θεομήτορος.	The most beautiful of seasons is at hand, the much praised day of abstinence has dawned. Κύριε ὁδοὺς ἡμῖν προφθάσαι, τὴν σήμερον ἡμέραν, Ἑβδομάδα ἁγίαν, προλάμπουσαν φαιδρῶς, τῆς Λαζάρου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγέρσεως φρικτῆς, ἀξίωσον τοὺς δούλους σου, τῷ φόβῳ σου πορεύεσθαι, τὸ στάδιον τῆς Νηστείας, ἄπαν διανύοντας.	O Lord, Thou hast granted us to reach the present day, on which in radiant light we commence the holy week of the dread raising of Lazarus from the tomb. Count us Thy servants worthy to walk in Thy fear, and to complete the whole course of the Fast. [KW]

Τιμιωτέρα τῶν ἐνδόξων Χερουβίμ, ὑπάρχεις Παναγία Παρθένε· ἐκεῖνα γὰρ τὴν θείαν μὴ φέροντα δύναμιν, πτέρυξι κατακεκαλυμμένῳ προσώπῳ, τὴν λειτουργίαν ἐπιτελοῦσιν· αὐτὴ δὲ σεσαρκωμένον τὸν Λόγον, αὐτόπτως ὁρῶσα φέρεις, ὃν ἀπαύστως ἱκέτευε, ὑπὲρ τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν.	All-Holy Virgin, thou art greater in honour than the glorious cherubim. Unable to endure the divine splendour, they veil their faces with their wings as they perform their ministry; but thou dost gaze with thine own eyes upon the Incarnate Word. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. Look upon Your world with mercy and compassion. Raise the Orthodox Christians in glory, and send down upon us Your rich mercies:

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ, ὁ Ἅγιος Δομέτιος ξίφει τελειοῦται.	On this day Saint Dometios died by the sword.
Ὁ Ἅγιος Νέος Ὁσιομάρτυς Λουκᾶς, ὁ ἐν Μυτιλήνῃ μαρτυρήσας ἐν ἔτει ᾳωβʹ (1802), ἀγχόνῃ τελειοῦται.	The holy New Monastic Martyr Luke witnessed in Mytilene in the year 1802 and died by hanging.

Ἐπουράνιε βασιλεῦ, τοὺς πιστοὺς βασιλεῖς ἡμῶν στερέωσον· τὴν πίστιν στήριξον· τὰ ἔθνη πράυνον· τὸν κόσμον εἰρήνευσον· τὴν ἁγίαν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ τὴν πόλιν (ἢ τὴν ἁγίαν μονὴν) ταύτην καλῶς διαφύλαξον· τοὺς προαπελθόντας πατέρας καὶ ἀδελφοὺς ἡμῶν ἐν σκηναῖς δικαίων τάξον· καὶ ἡμᾶς ἐν μετανοίᾳ καὶ ἐξομολογήσει παράλαβε ὡς ἀγαθὸς καὶ φιλάνθρωπος.	O heavenly King, uphold our rulers, strengthen the Faith, calm the nations, give peace to the world. Protect this holy Church (or, Monastery); grant our departed fathers and brethren that they may dwell with the righteous, and accept us in repentance and confession; for You are good and benevolent.
Καὶ ποιοῦμεν Μετανοίας τρεῖς μεγάλας, λέγοντες μυστικῶς ἐν ἑκάστῃ Μετανοίᾳ ἀνὰ Στίχον τῆς ἑπομένης Εὐχῆς τοῦ Ὁσίου Ἐφραίμ.	We now make three prostrations: i.e. we recite the Prayer of St. Ephrem (quietly or mentally), and with each verse we make a bow or prostration.
Ἄν καὶ συνηθίζεται ἡ εὐχὴ αὕτη νὰ λέγεται ἐκφώνως, ὅμως ἡ ὀρθὴ πράξις εἶναι νὰ λέγεται μυστικῶς καὶ νοερῶς ὑπὸ πάντων, κλήρου τε καὶ λαοῦ, ποιούντων τῶν μετανοιῶν κτλ.	While it has become customary for this prayer to be recited by someone aloud, nevertheless the indicated practice is that it be recited inaudibly and mentally by everyone, clergy and congregants alike, with the accompanying bows etc.
Εὐχὴ τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἐφραίμ	Prayer of St. Ephrem
Κύριε καὶ Δέσποτα τῆς ζωῆς μου, πνεῦμα ἀργίας, περιεργίας, φιλαρχίας καὶ ἀργολογίας μή μοι δῷς.	O Lord and Master of my life, do not permit the spirit of laziness and meddling, the lust for power and idle talk to come into me.
Πνεῦμα δὲ σωφροσύνης, ταπεινοφροσύνης, ὑπομονῆς καὶ ἀγάπης χάρισαί μοι τῷ σῷ δούλῳ.	Instead, grant me, Your servant, the spirit of prudence, humility, patience and love.
Ναί, Κύριε βασιλεῦ, δώρησαί μοι τοῦ ὁρᾶν τὰ ἐμὰ πταίσματα, καὶ μὴ κατακρίνειν τὸν ἀδελφόν μου. Ὅτι εὐλογητὸς εἶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων. Ἀμήν.	Yes, Lord and King, give me the power to see my own faults and not to judge my brother. For You are blessed unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Μετὰ δὲ ταύτας, ἑτέρας μικρὰς ιβ Μετανοίας, λέγοντες καθʼ ἑκάστην, «Ὁ Θεός, ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ, καὶ ἐλέησόν με». Εἶ αὖθις Μετάνοιαν μεγάλην μίαν, λέγοντες πάλιν τὸν τελευταῖον στίχον τῆς ἀνωτέρω Εὐχῆς.	Then we make the sign of the cross 12 times, each time saying, “God, be gracious to me a sinner and have mercy on me.” Then we repeat the third verse of the Prayer (quietly or mentally) and make a final bow or prostration.
