From the Triodion.

Sticheron Idiomelon. Mode 4.

Bring my soul out of prison to give thanks to Your name, O Lord. [SAAS]

Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. O Lord, in the abundance of your mercy, visit my soul, and remove the heavy burden of my iniquities, as the only One who is benevolent. [SD]

The righteous shall wait for me, until You reward me. [SAAS]

Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. O Lord, in the abundance of your mercy, visit my soul, and remove the heavy burden of my iniquities, as the only One who is benevolent. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

αʹ.

Mode pl. 1.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. [SAAS]

You disdained all earthly things, and you manfully defied the tortures. And hence you failed not in your blessed hopes, but became heirs of the Kingdom of heaven, O Martyrs, extolled throughout the world. Since to our humane God you speak with freedom, ask for peace for the world, and great mercy upon our souls. [SD]

αʹ.

Mode pl. 1.

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. [SAAS]

Armed with the shield of faith, and rousing themselves to action with the sign of the Cross, O Lord, Your Saints of their own accord went forth courageously to the tortures, and they abolished the delusion and the audacity of the devil. At their entreaties, O omnipotent God, send peace down upon the world, and great mercy upon our souls. [SD]

αʹ.

Mode pl. 1.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

Intercede on our behalf, O holy Martyrs, * that we be delivered from our iniquities. * For to you has the grace been given to intercede on our behalf. [SD]

αʹ.

Mode pl. 1.

Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

Refusing to deny Christ, O holy Martyrs, you endured the various painful tortures with an insatiable willingness of soul. You humbled the impudence of the tyrants, having kept your faith steadfast and invulnerable, and you were translated to heaven. Since you therefore have obtained confidence before the Lord, entreat Him that great mercy be granted to us. [SD]

From the morning watch until night; from the morning watch until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. [SAAS]

Universal luminaries and all-laudable Hierarchs * and invincible Martyr Saints, * O Fathers, your minds were set on the things of heaven. * Immovable pillars of the all-holy Church of Christ, * the firm foundation of doctrines most divine, * as leaders of the Orthodox, you guide our souls to the light of God. * With the Angels you dwell on high, * for you championed the Trinity.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions. [SAAS]

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples. [SAAS]

With inspired songs extol the Martyrs Ephrem, Aetherius * and Eugene and Elpidius, * Basileus, Capito, and Agathodorus. * Glorious and famous and most illustrious were they, * and they had wisdom from God, and they were great. * They lived their lives devoutly, and they suffered martyrdom sacredly. * And now they are residents * of the heavenly kingdom on high. [GOASD]

For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever. [SAAS]

Famous Martyr Basileus, mortifying the carnal mind * by his labors and discipline, * raised the dead by faithfully invoking the Lord God. * Capito the shepherd and holy hierarch rejoiced, * as he was standing within the burning fire * remaining whole. O Savior, by their intercessions, please grant to us * Your great mercy and clemency, * in Your love for humanity. [GOASD]

I remembered how the Prophet once said: “I am but dust and ashes”; and then I looked into the graves and saw the naked bones, and in turn I exclaimed: “Who can tell, which one was a king, which one a soldier, rich or poor, a righteous man or a sinner?” Nevertheless, O Lord, grant that Your servants may rest with the righteous, in Your benevolence.

In the Red Sea long ago, there was a prefigurement of the ever-virgin Mary. There, it was Moses parting the water, and here, Gabriel took part in the wonder. Israel walked through the sea as on dry ground. The Virgin, without seed, gave birth to Christ. The sea remained impassable after the passing of Israel. The blameless Mother remained immaculate after conceiving Emmanuel. O God, the One who is and ever was and who appeared as man, have mercy on us. [GOASD]

Γεν Εʹ, 32 – Ϛʹ, 8

Gn 5:32, 6:1 – 8

And Noah was five hundred years old, and he begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Now it came to pass that men began to exist in great numbers on the earth, and daughters were born to them. So when the sons of God saw the daughters of men were beautiful, they took wives for themselves of all they chose. Then the Lord God said, “My Spirit shall not remain with these people forever, for they are flesh. So their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” Now there were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men of old, men of renown. Then the Lord God saw man’s wickedness, that it was great in the earth, and every intent of the thoughts within his heart was only evil continually. So God was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and He thought this over. Then God said, “I will blot out man whom I created from the face of the earth, from man to cattle, and from the creeping things to the birds of heaven, for I am grieved I made them.” But Noah found grace in the presence of the Lord God. Pr 6:24 – 35, 7:1 – 2

My son, guard the laws of your father, and do not depart from the rules of your mother. But fasten them to your soul continually and wear them as a collar upon your neck. When you walk about, bring along this commandment and let it be with you; and as you sleep, let it guard you, that when you arise, it may speak to you. For a commandment of law is a lamp and a light, and the way of life is reproof and instruction, that you may keep yourself from a married woman and from the slanderous tongue of a strange woman. Do not let the desire of beauty conquer you; neither be caught by her eyes, nor captivated by her eyelids; for the value of a prostitute is only one loaf, and such a woman hunts for the precious souls of men. Shall anyone bind fire to his bosom and his garments not burn? Or will anyone walk about on coals of fire and not burn his feet? Likewise is the one who goes in to a married woman; he shall not be guiltless, nor any who touch her. It is not surprising if anyone who steals is caught, for he steals that he may fill his hungry soul; but if he is caught, he will repay sevenfold, and by giving all his goods, he shall deliver himself. But the adulterer through his lack of discernment obtains the destruction of his soul; he bears both pain and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away forever. For the anger of her husband is full of jealousy; he will not spare in the day of judgment; he will not take any ransom in exchange for his hatred, nor will he be reconciled by many gifts. My son, guard my words, and hide my commandments within yourself; my son, honor the Lord, and you shall be strong, and fear none other but Him. [SAAS]
