Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. Herod ordered the sacrifice * of the innocent boys today, * for the lawless King sought the hidden treasure, Christ. * And thus fulfilled was the prophecy, * and Rachael was unconsoled, * as she witnessed their unjust * heinous slaughter and premature * death, and so she wept * and she wailed and she keened in lamentation. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, the dominion of the Judeans came to an end. Let the innocent Infants leap for joy, even as they are slaughtered for Christ. But lament, O Judea; for a voice was heard in Ramah, Rachael weeps, as it is written, and laments for her children. When Herod, the lawless king, had the infants killed, he fulfilled the Scripture, by filling Judea with innocent blood. The ground turned red with the blood of the babes, but the Church of the Gentiles was mystically purified and adorned. The truth has come, God has appeared, to those sitting in darkness. He was born of a Virgin, in order to save us. [SD]
