Ὁ Μάρτυς σου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ ἀθλήσει αὐτοῦ, τὸ στέφος ἐκομίσατο τῆς ἀφθαρσίας, ἐκ σοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν· ἔχων γὰρ τὴν ἰσχύν σου, τοὺς τυράννους καθεῖλεν· ἔθραυσε καὶ δαιμόνων, τὰ ἀνίσχυρα θράση. We have come to know that the Word of the Father, Christ our God, became incarnate from you, O Virgin Theotokos, only pure, only blessed. Therefore we never cease to extol and magnify you. [SD]

O all-lauded Disciples of the Lord, as firebrands you enlightened the entire globe. I who am in the darkness of passions and transgressions pray you intercede with Him, that I too be enlightened. Τὴν τῆς γῆς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς δόξαν, οὐκ ἠγαπήσατε ἔνδοξοι· Θεὸν τὸν ἐπουράνιον, τοῖς ἀνθρώποις κηρύξαντες, τούτῳ πάντας ἠγάγετε.	O glorious Apostles, on earth you did not love the glory of earth. You proclaimed the heavenly God to people, and you led them to Him. [GOASD]
Στίχ. Θαυμαστὸς ὁ Θεὸς ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις αὐτοῦ.	Verse: God is wondrous in His saints.
Μαρτυρικόν.	For the Martyrs.

Οἱ Μάρτυρές σου Κύριε, τὸν ἐχθρὸν ἐτροπώσαντο, καὶ τὴν πλάνην τῶν εἰδώλων κατήργησαν, καθοπλισάμενοι τοῦ Σταυροῦ τὴν δύναμιν· διὸ καὶ σὺν Ἀγγέλοις ἀνυμνοῦντές σε, κραυγάζουσι τὸν ἐπινίκιον ὕμνον, δοξολογοῦντές σε, Χριστέ. Αὐτῶν ταῖς ἱκεσίαις, δώρησαι ἡμῖν τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.	O Lord, Your Martyrs, fully armed with the power of the Cross, put the enemy to flight and negated the deception of idolatry. And now they join the Angels extolling You, and glorifying You, O Christ, and together they sing the triumphal hymn. At their entreaties grant to us the great mercy. [GOASD]

You listened to your good wife, O patient James. You showed contempt for the religion of the Persians and their threats, fearing rather the judgment of God. And you became a marvelous Martyr, when your body was cut like a vine. [SD]

Ἀπὸ ψυχῆς στενάξωμεν πάντες, δάκρυα ἐκχέοντες, καθορῶντες πικρῶς τὸν Μάρτυρα μελιζόμενον· δίκην κυνῶν γὰρ ὠρυομένων συνελθόντες οἱ δήμιοι, τὰ μέλη κατετίτρωσκον τοῦ θαυμαστοῦ καὶ γενναίου ἐν Μάρτυσι Μάρτυρος. Τίς οὖν ὑπάρχει; εἰ δοκεῖ, μικρὸν ὑπομείνατε, καὶ λέξω πάντα μετὰ σπουδῆς, πῶς ὡς θῦμα Κυρίῳ προσήνεκται, το σῶμα ὡς κλῆμα τεμνόμενος.	As we see the Martyr being bitterly dismembered, let us all sigh from the depths of our souls and pour out many tears. Those executioners came like growling dogs, and they mangled the limbs of our marvelous Martyr, who was brave among Martyrs. Who is he? Be patient, if you wish, and I will gladly tell you everything, how he was offered as a sacrifice to the Lord, when his body was cut like a vine. [SD]
