All the world has you, its mighty champion, * fortifying us in times of danger, * and defeating our foes, O Victorious One. * So, as you humbled Lyaios’s arrogance * by giving courage to Nestor in the stadium, * thus, O holy Great-martyr Demetrios, * to Christ our God pray fervently, * beseeching Him to grant us His great mercy. Mode 4.

Your Martyr, O Lord, was worthily awarded by You * the crown of incorruption, in that he contested for You our immortal God. * Since he possessed Your power, he defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at his fervent entreaties, save our souls. Mode 4.

O Theotokos, revealed through you to us on earth was the mystery, that was hidden for ages and unknown by the angels. God became incarnate, uniting natures without confusion, and for us He voluntarily accepted crucifixion, through which He resurrected the first-formed man, and He saved our souls from death. [GOASD]

The appointed Kathisma of the Psalter may be read, i.e. Kathisma 4. Then the short litany.

Kathisma I.

For compunction.

Mode 3.

O my soul, repent while you still sojourn on earth, for dust in the grave does not sing praise, nor is it released from transgressions. Cry out now to Christ God, “Knower of the heart, I have sinned. Before You condemn me, spare me, O God, and have mercy on me.” [SD]

Verse: O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your anger.

How long will you persist in your offenses, O my soul? Till when will you put off repenting? Call to mind the judgment that is coming, and cry aloud to Christ God: “O sinless Lord, who know the hearts of all, I have sinned. Have mercy on me.” [SD]

Rejoice, O Mary, Mother and Virgin, the holy mountain, the Garden of Eden! From you, only Christ God was born without seed, and through Him life has blossomed for the world. [SD]

Mode 3.

At the dreadful trial, I will be convicted even without accusers, I will be condemned even without witnesses. For the books of my conscience will be opened, and my hidden deeds are revealed. So, before You examine my actions in that most public theater, O God, be gracious to me and save me. [SD]

Verse: Look upon me and have mercy on me.

A frightful tribunal awaits me, O Lord. My deeds cry out, even though I be silent. But before that, O Christ my God, seek me the lost sheep, and through repentance save me. [SD]

You in purity surpass the Angels; * therefore you became the tabernacle * of the Logos, O immaculate Mother of God. * But as for me, I surpass everybody else * in the pollutions resulting from sins of the flesh. * With the waters of your intercession wash away my filth, * All-holy Maid, and grant me the great mercy. Mode 3. You were so beautiful.

Τὴν ὡραιότητα.

As the almighty God, by word You brought all things, * earthly and heavenly, into existence, O Lord. * Now the angelic choirs stand in Your presence with fear and trembling, * and they offer up to You their continuous hymns of praise; * they also illuminate with Your light the entire world. * They pray for us, and we also cry out: * In Your compassion, O Master, save us all. [GOASD]

Verse: God is wondrous in His saints.

For the Martyrs.

Your wholehearted endurance vanquished the machinations of the enemy and author of evil, O all-lauded medal-winners. That is why you have been counted worthy of eternal blessedness. We entreat you to intercede with the Lord, that He save the flock of Christ-loving people, for You, O Martyrs, are witnesses of the truth. [SD]

All beings heavenly rejoiced with fear and awe, * and even earth itself was very glad indeed, * O Theotokos, when that pure salutation was spoken to you. * Then your Son and Master saved from destruction the first-formed man, * and those on high and here below celebrated in unison. * And therefore with the Angel we say to you: Rejoice, O Maiden full of grace! You competed well; * and now you have inherited * immortal renown. * For you became an excellent * soldier of the Master Christ, * by the prayers of the Martyr Demetrios. * Nestor, as you are with him now, * cease not interceding on behalf of us all. [SD]

Oikos.

You competed, with the strength of God, and you were victorious, all-blessed Saint. You were glorified, for you trampled the foe underfoot. You appear with a halo, with the rest of the divine Athletes, O Nestor. You exceeded Aaron, O Athlete of Christ, for like Abel you offered your own blood to Him. As you now stand near the throne of the Creator, with the orders of Angels, cease not interceding on behalf of us all. [SD]

On October 27, we commemorate the holy Martyr Nestor.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyrs Capitolina and Eroteis.

On this day we also commemorate our father among the saints Kyriakos, Patriarch of Constantinople.

On this day we also commemorate Saint Procla, the wife of Pontius Pilate.

On this day we relate how the Iberians came to the knowledge of God.

Spiritual perfume * enchanted you, O Martyr, * and led you to the virtues * and their perfume, and gave you the grace of gushing forth perfume. [SD]

Verse: The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree; he shall be multiplied like the cedar in Lebanon. [SAAS]

Kudos to that perfume * that decorates your body. * And even greater kudos * to the perfume of soul, by which you are known, O blessed Saint. [SD]

Verse: Those planted in the house of the Lord shall blossom forth in the courts of our God. [SAAS]

Blessed Demetrios, * you bravely inundated * in rivers of your perfume * Satan who dug the pit wherein you were held a prisoner. [SD]
