Mode pl. 4. |
With the rivers of your tears you made the barren desert bloom; and with your sighs from deep within, you made your labors bear their fruits a hundredfold; and you became a star, illuminating the world by your miracles, O Hilarion, our devout father. Intercede with Christ our God, for the salvation of our souls. [SD] |

O Believers, let us magnify the Theotokos in hymns. She is the unshakable support of the Faith, and the venerable gift to our souls. “Rejoice! for in your womb you contained the Rock of life. Rejoice! as the hope of all the earth, and the help of those in trouble! Rejoice, O unwedded Bride!” [SD] |
The appointed Kathisma of the Psalter may be read, i.e. Kathisma 7. Then the short litany. |

Mode 2. |
O my soul, consider the trial on that terrifying day, and shudder at the sentence of eternal punishment. And now in repentance shed tears and cry out, “O God, I have sinned. Have mercy on me.” [GOASD] |
Verse: O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your anger. |
As I examine my guilty conscience, I am fearful of Your dreaded judgment, O Lord, for I have done nothing to warrant salvation. Knowing that You are rich in compassion, I implore You, O Christ my God: Have mercy on me and save me. [GOASD] |
Glory. Both now. Theotokion. |
We magnify you, O Theotokos, and we cry out: Rejoice! You are the gate that was shut; and through you Paradise of long ago was opened to humanity. [SD] |

Mode 2. |
David said, “Have mercy on me.” And likewise I cry out, “I have sinned, O Savior. I pray You blot out my sins, through my repentance, and have mercy on me.” [GOASD] |
Verse: Look upon me and have mercy on me. |
For the two sins he committed, David grieved and cried, “Have mercy on me, O God; have mercy on me!” And I, for my countless transgressions, pray to You. He wet his couch with many tears, and I cannot produce a single teardrop. I am lost! So I entreat You: “Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy!” [GOASD] |
Glory. Both now. Theotokion. |
O Theotokos, please do not ignore me, as I pray for your assistance. For my soul relies on you. Have mercy on me! [GOASD] |

Εὐσπλαγχνίας ὑπάρχουσα. |
In the streams of the Jordan you immersed * the plentiful fountain of mercy, O John the Baptist. * Now I am mercilessly drowned each day * by the many passions in the sea of life. * I earnestly implore you to intercede for me. * Lead me to the port of life, * by your prayers to God, which He accepts from you. [GOASD] |
Verse: God is wondrous in His saints. |
For the Martyrs. |
You make Your holy martyrs shinier than gold, and You glorify Your devout ascetics, since You are good. Being importuned by them, O Christ our God, bring peace into our lives, O benevolent Lord, and let our prayer as incense rise to You, who alone dwell in the holy. [GOASD] |
Glory. Both now. Theotokion. |
Who has ever seen or heard before that a mother gave birth to her Creator, or that a virgin could nurse a child, who is the One who gives food to all flesh? We marvel at this miracle. O Theotokos full of grace, your womb was like the cherubic throne. We pray you intercede on behalf of our souls. [GOASD] |

Psalm 50 (51). |
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. Coming together today, we sing in hymns to you, Hillary, as an unsetting luminary of the noetic Sun. You illumined those in the darkness of ignorance, lifting up to a divine height all those who cry out: Rejoice, O Father, pedestal of ascetics. [VPA] |
Oikos. |
When you fell in love with the divine commandments of Christ, and detested carnal and worldly pleasure, you enthusiastically went to Him, and you became a star that illumined all the ends of the earth, as you shined with the light of the Spirit. Therefore I appeal to you and entreat you: Illumine the eyes of my soul as well, so that I may extol your contests, which you demonstrated on earth for the sake of the life to come. As you enjoy that now, remember us who shout: Rejoice, O Father, the pedestal of ascetics. [SD] |
