Καὶ τῇ ὑπερβολῇ τῶν ἀποκαλύψεων ἵνα μὴ ὑπεραίρωμαι, ἐδόθη μοι σκόλοψ τῇ σαρκί, ἄγγελος σατᾶν, ἵνα με κολαφίζῃ ἵνα μὴ ὑπεραίρωμαι. ὑπὲρ τούτου τρὶς τὸν Κύριον παρεκάλεσα ἵνα ἀποστῇ ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ· καὶ εἴρηκέ μοι· ἀρκεῖ σοι ἡ χάρις μου· ἡ γὰρ δύναμίς μου ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ τελειοῦται. ἥδιστα οὖν μᾶλλον καυχήσομαι ἐν ταῖς ἀσθενείαις μου, ἵνα ἐπισκηνώσῃ ἐπ᾿ ἐμὲ ἡ δύναμις τοῦ Χριστοῦ.	Brethren, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie. At Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus and wanted to seize me, but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped his hands. I must boast; there is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven — whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into Paradise — whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows — and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. Though if I wish to boast, I shall not be a fool, for I shall be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. And to keep me from being too elated by the abundance of revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I besought the Lord about this, that it should leave me; but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. In those days, Peter, standing with the eleven,lifted up his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even upon my menservants and my maid servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day. And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’” [RSV]

Τῇ ΙΘʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μηνὸς μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου Προφήτου Ἰωήλ.	On October 19 we commemorate the holy Prophet Joel.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου Μάρτυρος Οὐάρου καὶ τῶν σὺν αὐτῷ.	On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Varys and those with him.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τοῦ ἁγίου Μάρτυρος Σαδὼθ καὶ τῶν σὺν αὐτῷ εἴκοσι καὶ ἑκατὸν Μαρτύρων, ἐν Περσίδι τελειωθέντων.	On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Sadoth and the 120 Martyrs with him who died in Persia.
Ὁ ἅγιος Λεόντιος ὁ φιλόσοφος, ἐν εἰρήνῃ τελειοῦται.	Saint Leo the Philosopher reposed in peace.
Οἱ ἅγιοι Φῆλιξ πρεσβύτερος καὶ Εὐσέβιος διάκονος, ξίφει τελειοῦνται.	Saint Felix the priest and Saint Eusebius the deacon, died by the sword.
Ὁ ὅσιος Πατὴρ ἡμῶν Ἰωάννης ὁ θαυματουργός, ὁ κατὰ τὸ ὄρος τοῦ Ῥίλα ἀσκήσας καὶ τὴν ἐκεῖσε Μονὴν οἰκοδομήσας, ἐν εἰρήνῃ τελειοῦται.	Our devout Father St. John the Wonderworker, who lived as an ascetic on Mount Rila and built a Monastery, there reposed in peace.
Ταῖς τῶν ἁγίων πρεσβείαις, ὁ Θεός, ἐλέησον ἡμᾶς. Ἀμήν.	By the intercessions of Your Saints, O God, have mercy on us. Amen.
