Ἤ, ἀντὶ τῶν Ἀντιφώνων, κατὰ τὸ τυπικόν, ψάλλονται τὰ Τυπικὰ καὶ οἱ Μακαρισμοί.

Ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου μνήσθητι ἡμῶν Κύριε, ὅταν ἔλθῃς ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου. Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πρᾳεῖς, ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσι τὴν γῆν.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες καὶ διψῶντες τὴν δικαιοσύνην, ὅτι αὐτοὶ χορτασθήσονται.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [RSV]

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Διὰ βρώσεως ἐξήγαγε, τοῦ Παραδείσου ὁ ἐχθρὸς τὸν Ἀδάμ, διὰ Σταυροῦ δὲ τὸν λῃστήν, ἀντεισήγαγε Χριστὸς ἐν αὐτῷ. Μνήσθητί μου κράζοντα, ὅταν ἔλθῃς ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

Then the foe used eating from the tree * to get Adam banished from Paradise. * Now crucified upon a tree, * Christ allowed the Robber enter it, * when he said: Remember me * when You come in Your kingdom, O Lord. [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Καθʼ ἑκάστην ἁμαρτάνοντα, καὶ παραβαίνοντα τὰς σὰς ἐντολάς, ἐπίστρεψόν με ὁ Θεός, καὶ κολάσεως ἐξάρπασον, ὅπως σοῦ τὴν ἄφατον, εὐσπλαγχνίαν δοξάζω, Φιλάνθρωπε.

Sinning daily as I do, O God, * and violating Your commandments, I pray * that through repentance You convert * me and rescue me from punishment, * so that I may glorify * Your ineffable compassion, O benevolent Lord. [SD]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Λύχνος ὤφθης, θεῖε Πρόδρομε, προπορευόμενος ἀδύτου φωτός, τοῦ ἐκ νεφέλης φωτεινῆς, ἀνατείλαντος ἀῤῥήτως ἡμῖν. Τοῦτον οὖν ἱκέτευε, καταυγάσαι ψυχὰς τῶν τιμώντων σε.

O divine Forerunner, you appeared * as a lamp preceding the unsetting Light * Who from the cloud of light on us * inexpressibly has risen and shone. * Supplicate Him earnestly * to illumine the souls of those who honor you. [SD]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Μαρτυρικόν.

For the Martyrs.

Ὑπομείναντες πολύπλοκα, βάσανα Μάρτυρες πανεύφημοι, ἐπουρανίων ἀγαθῶν, ἐν ὑψίστοις ἠξιώθητε· ὅθεν μακαρίζεσθε, ὑπὸ πάντων ἀνθρώπων ἑκάστοτε.

You attained the heavenly awards * in the heights, O Martyrs extolled by all, * after you suffered and endured * many complicated tortures for Christ. * Therefore everywhere each day * do believers extol you and call you blest. [SD]

Δόξα.

Glory.

Τὸν Πατέρα προσκυνήσωμεν, καὶ τὸν Υἱὸν δοξολογήσωμεν, καὶ τὸ Πανάγιον ὁμοῦ, πάντες Πνεῦμα ἀνυμνήσωμεν, κράζοντες καὶ λέγοντες· Παναγία Τριάς, σῶσον πάντας ἡμᾶς.

Let us bow in worship and adore * the Father; likewise let us glorify * the Son; and also let us praise * the all-holy Spirit faithfully, * crying out in unison, * “Save us all, we implore, all-holy Trinity.” [SD]

Μετὰ τόκον ἀειπάρθενος, ὡς πρὸ τοῦ τόκου ἐφυλάχθης, Ἁγνή, Θεὸν γεννήσασα σαρκί, ὃν δυσώπει σαρκικῶν ἡμᾶς, Ἄχραντε λυτρώσασθαι, ψυχικῶν τε παθῶν ἱκετεύομεν.

After childbirth did you remain * virgin as you were before childbirth, * when you gave birth to God in flesh, * O Immaculate, Whom entreat, * Pure one, that we be redeemed * from the passions of the flesh and the soul, we pray. [SD]

Come, let us worship and bow down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, who are wondrous in the saints. We sing to You, Alleluia.

Ὀρθοδοξίας ὁδηγέ, εὐσεβείας διδάσκαλε καὶ σεμνότητος, τῆς οἰκουμένης ὁ φωστήρ, ἀρχιερέων θεόπνευστον ἐγκαλλώπισμα, σοφὲ πατὴρ Κοσμᾶ, σοφέ, ταῖς διδαχαῖς σου πάντας ἐφώτισας, λύρα τοῦ Πνεύματος· πρέσβευε Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ, σωθῆναι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

Guide of Orthodoxy and a sacred teacher of piety and dignity, luminary of the world, and God-inspired jewel of the episcopate, O wise father Cosmas, the Spirit’s instrument: by your teachings you enlightened all. Intercede with Christ our God for the salvation of our souls. [SD]

Οἱ Μάρτυρές σου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ ἀθλήσει αὐτῶν, στεφάνους ἐκομίσαντο τῆς ἀφθαρσίας, ἐκ σοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν· σχόντες γὰρ τὴν ἰσχύν σου, τοὺς τυράννους καθεῖλον, ἔθραυσαν καὶ δαιμόνων, τὰ ἀνίσχυρα θράση. Αὐτῶν ταῖς ἱκεσίαις, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, σῶσον τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

Your Martyrs, O Lord, were worthily awarded by You * the crowns of incorruption, in that they contested for You our immortal God. * Since they possessed Your power, they defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at their fervent entreaties, save our souls. [SD]

O Prophet of God and Forerunner of grace divine, since we have obtained your Head from beneath the earth, as if a most sacred rose, we are receiving the healings continually. And once again, as formerly, you are preaching repentance throughout the world. [SD]

Brethren, God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. I want you to know, brethren, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole praetorium and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ; and most of the brethren have been made confident in the Lord because of my imprisonment, and are much more bold to speak the word without fear. At that time, Jesus went through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for him out of their means. Hymn to the Theotokos.

Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

Εἴδομεν τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινόν, ἐλάβομεν Πνεῦμα ἐπουράνιον, εὕρομεν πίστιν ἀληθῆ, ἀδιαίρετον Τριάδα προσκυνοῦντες· αὕτη γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἔσωσεν.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and the holy Martyrs Nazarius, Gervasios, Protasius, and Celsus; and St. Cosmas the Hymnographer, whose memory we observe, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
