God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

O holy Apostle Thomas, make intercession to our merciful God, that He grant our souls forgiveness of offenses. [SD]

Τὴν ὡραιότητα τῆς παρθενίας σου, καὶ τὸ ὑπέρλαμπρον τὸ τῆς ἁγνείας σου, ὁ Γαβριὴλ καταπλαγείς, ἐβόα σοι Θεοτόκε· Ποῖόν σοι ἐγκώμιον, προσαγάγω ἐπάξιον; τί δὲ ὀνομάσω σε; ἀπορῶ καὶ ἐξίσταμαι· διὸ ὡς προσετάγην βοῶ σοι· Χαῖρε ἡ Κεχαριτωμένη.

You were so beautiful in your virginity. * Archangel Gabriel admired your purity, * which was resplendent; and amazed, he said to you, Theotokos, * “As there are no accolades that can worthily honor you, * I am at a loss for words to address you, so awed am I. * But I will say what I was commanded: * Rejoice, O favored Maiden full of grace!” [SD]

The appointed Kathisma of the Psalter may be read, i.e. Kathisma 4. Then the short litany.

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Ὄμματι εὐσπλάγχνῳ Κύριε, ἴδε τὴν ἐμὴν ταπείνωσιν, ὅτι κατὰ μικρὸν ἡ ζωή μου δαπανᾶται, καὶ ἐξ ἔργων ἐμοὶ οὐχ ὑπάρχει σωτηρία· διὰ τοῦτο δέομαι· Ὄμματι εὐσπλάγχνῳ Κύριε, ἴδε τὴν ἐμὴν ταπείνωσιν, καὶ σῶσόν με.

O Lord, I beg You look at my low condition with a compassionate expression. For my life is passing little by little, and I have not done anything to merit salvation. Therefore I implore You: O Lord, look at my low condition with a compassionate expression, and save me. [GOASD]

O my soul, keep the thought of that fearful day * in the front of your mind, and be vigilant; * and trimming your oil lamp, keep it lit with the virtues. * For you know not the day nor the hour the cry will come * to you specifically, saying, “Behold, your Bridegroom is here!” * Therefore, O my soul, always watch lest you slumber * and be left outside knocking like those five foolish maidens. * But continue in vigilance, * so that you may meet Christ God with abundant oil, and He give to you * the heavenly bridal room of His glory divine. The Creator and Master of all the world, * who took flesh from your all-pure and holy womb, * made you, the all-blameless Maid, * the protectress of humanity. * For this reason all we faithful now have recourse to you, * and we ask you, O Lady, to be forgiven our offenses, * and to be delivered from eternal perdition * We pray you to rescue us from all punishments that are there. * And with faith we cry out to you: * Intercede with Christ our God * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who faithfully run to you for shelter, O Bride of God [GOASD]

Ὡς τοῦ Κριτοῦ παρόντος, μερίμνησον ψυχή, καὶ τῆς φρικτῆς ἡμέρας, τὴν ὥραν ἐννοοῦ· ἡ γὰρ κρίσις ἀνίλεώς ἐστι, τοῖς μὴ πράξασιν ἔλεος· διὸ πρὸ τέλους βόησον· Φεῖσαί μου Σωτήρ, μόνος γὰρ ὑπάρχεις φιλάνθρωπος.

As if the Judge were present, be anxious, O my soul, and keep in mind the thought of the hour of that fearful day. For the judgment is merciless to those who showed no mercy. So before the end cry aloud, “Spare me, O my Savior, for You are supremely benevolent.” [GOASD]

Verse: Look upon me and have mercy on me.

Ὡς ἡ πόρνη σοι προσπίπτω, ἵνα λάβω τὴν ἄφεσιν, καὶ ἀντὶ μύρου τὰ δάκρυα ἐκ καρδίας, προσφέρω σοι Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός· ἵνα ὡς ἐκείνην, οἰκτειρήσῃς με Σωτήρ, καὶ παράσχῃς ἱλασμὸν ἁμαρτιῶν· ὡς αὐτὴ γὰρ κραυγάζω σοι· Λύτρωσαί με τοῦ βορβόρου τῶν ἔργων μου.

Like the sinful woman, I come to You to be forgiven, and instead of perfume, I offer You my heartfelt tears, O Christ God, so that You will pity me, as You did her, O Savior, and grant to me forgiveness of sins. For like her, I cry to You, “Free me from the mud of my sinful deeds!” [GOASD]

Τὸν Ἀπόστολον πάντες καὶ μαθητὴν τοῦ Χριστοῦ, εὐφημήσωμεν ὕμνοις ἐπὶ τῇ μνήμῃ αὐτοῦ· θεοπρεπῶς γὰρ τὰς ἡμῶν διανοίας αὐτός, τύπους τῶν ἥλων ψηλαφῶν, βεβαίαν πίστιν ἐκζητῶν, ἐστήριξεν ἐν Κυρίῳ, ἀδιαλείπτως πρεσβεύων, ἐλεηθῆναι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. Ὁ τῆς θείας χάριτος πεπληρωμένος, τοῦ Χριστοῦ Ἀπόστολος, καὶ ὑπηρέτης ἀληθής, ἐν μετανοίᾳ ἐκραύγαζε· Σύ μου ὑπάρχεις, Θεός τε καὶ Κύριος.

Thomas, the faithful servant and disciple of Christ, ⁄ filled with divine grace, cried out from the depth of his love: ⁄⁄ You are my Lord and my God! [OCA]

Πρὸς τὸν Χριστοῦ Μαθητήν, καὶ μέγαν μυστολέκτην, Θωμᾶν τὸν θεηγόρον τοῦ Πέτρου ἐκβοῶντος· «Ἑωράκαμεν τὸν Κύριον», ἔφησεν οὗτος. «Ἐὰν μὴ ἴδω ἐν ταῖς χερσίν αὐτοῦ τὸν τύπον τῶν ἥλων, ψηλαφήσω δὲ καὶ τὴν πλευράν, οὐ μὴ πιστεύσω». Ἀλλʼ ὁ Κτίστης τῶν ἁπάντων καὶ Δεσπότης, ὥσπερ δοῦλος ἐλήλυθε, θέλων πάντας σῶσαι, καὶ λέγει τῷ Θωμᾷ. «Ψηλάφησον χειρῶν καὶ πλευρὰς τοὺς τύπους, καὶ μὴ ἀπίστει· ἐγὼ γὰρ εἰμι Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου». ὁ δὲ ἐν μετανοίᾳ ἐβόησε. Peter called out to the divinely eloquent Thomas, the disciple of the Lord and great initiate of the mysteries: We have seen the Lord! His friend said to him, crying out: Unless I see the wounds of His hands, I will not believe! Then the Master of all, in His desire to save all, came as a servant and said to Thomas: Touch My hands and My side and do not be unbelieving, for I am your Lord and God. In repentance he cried out: ⁄⁄ You are my Lord and my God! [OCA]

On October 6, we commemorate the holy Apostle Thomas.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Eroteis.

The holy New Monastic Martyr Makarios, who was from Kios in Bithynia, but witnessed in Prusa, was stoned and then died by the sword in the year 1590.

Guiltless were those Servants in the furnace. * The Son of the Theotokos went and rescued them. * He who was prefigured then, * having been incarnate now, * is gathering the whole wide world into His Church to sing: * “O all you works of the Lord, to all ages * sing praises to the Lord and exalt Him beyond measure.” [SD]

Fully illumined by the divine fire of the knowledge of God, you imitated the Master in all things, as a lawful disciple, O Apostle Thomas. Using the fishing rod of the Cross, you pulled the souls of the pious out of the deep sea of ignorance. And with the fishing net of the Holy Spirit, you caught the minds of those in India that were in darkness. We pray you ever implore Christ God, also to deliver us from the bedarkened face of the enemy, and to save our souls. [SD]

You abandoned fishing in the sea, and instead by faith you took up the fishing rod of the Cross, and you used it to catch everyone, O Apostle Thomas. Therefore you were counted worthy to touch the immaculate side of the Logos with your hand, and to examine with your finger the wounds of the nails that had pierced Him. With the divine net of the Spirit, you pulled people up from the depths of despair. You came forth from Zion like a river of grace, pouring out your inspired teachings to all of creation. Then you imitated the Passion of Christ, and you were pierced in the side. Now that you have entered the divine darkness of incorruption, implore Him to have mercy on our souls. [GOASD]
