From Octoechos - - -

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

The fruit that killed me of old was good for food and beautiful to contemplate. But Christ is the very tree of life, from which I eat and die not. And echoing the Robber’s words, I cry out, “Remember me in Your kingdom, O Lord.” [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

I cry with pain in my heart, O Savior, * like the Canaanite woman who had faith. * Have mercy on me, Lord, since You are good. * For my soul is in danger * of succumbing to all * the tricks of the enemy and is tormented by woes. [SD]

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

The Cherubim, Seraphim and Powers, * and the Principalities and Thrones, * as well as the Archangels and the hosts * of Angels, and the choirs * of Dominions and the wise * Authorities glorify You, benefactor and Lord. [SD]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

For the Martyrs.

As they were lifted to God, the holy * martyr athletes utterly tore down * the wicked pride and boasting of the foe. * Now that they have been shown forth * to be victors, with great joy * in heaven they go about, * radiant with glorious light. [SD]

Glory.

I worship Father and Son and Spirit, * co-eternal and unoriginate, * the essence uncreated and the same * nature; acting divinely * It created all from naught, * and It is a Trinity * and is known as Monad as well. [SD]

Καὶ νῦν.

Both now. Theotokion.

I am polluted by worldly pleasures, * yet for refuge I turn to you, * the unpolluted Virgin; and I pray * that you rescue my poor soul * from every spot and all my sins, * so that I may macarize you, * Lady ever-macarized. [SD]

As a citizen of the desert and an angel incarnate * and a wonder-worker you shone forth, O Kyriacos, our God-bearing father. * Since you received the spiritual gifts * by fasting and vigilance and prayer, * you can cure those who are ailing and heal the souls * of those who run to you with faith. * Glory to Him who gave His might to you; * glory to Him who placed a crown on you; * glory to Him who operates through you, providing cures to all.

The Epistle

For the Devout Man.

The reading is from Paul’s Letter to the Galatians.

Γαλ 5:22 – 26; 6:1 – 2

Gal. 5:22 – 26; 6:1 – 2

Brethren, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another. Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. [RSV]

The Gospel

Monday of the 2nd Week of Luke

The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

Λκ 4:38 – 44

Lk. 4:38 – 44

At that time, Jesus entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they besought him for her. And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her; and immediately she rose and served them. Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them, and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ. And when it was day he departed and went into a lonely place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them; but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.” And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee. [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

Communion Hymn. Psalm 103.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.
