God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS] |
Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ. |
Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name. |
Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς. |
Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them. |
Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν. |
Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes. |

Preeminent Apostles and teachers of the universe, intercede with the Master of all, to grant peace to the whole world, and great mercy to our souls. [SD] |

Σὲ τὴν μεσιτεύσασαν τὴν σωτηρίαν τοῦ γένους ἡμῶν, ἀνυμνοῦμεν Θεοτόκε Παρθένε· ἐν τῇ σαρκὶ γὰρ τῇ ἐκ σοῦ προσληφθείσῃ, ὁ Υἱός σου καὶ Θεὸς ἡμῶν τὸ διὰ σταυροῦ καταδεξάμενος πάθος, ἐλυτρώσατο ἡμᾶς, ἐκ φθορᾶς ὡς φιλάνθρωπος. |
Virgin Theotokos, we sing hymns extolling you, through whom came humanity’s salvation. For your Son and our God, who is benevolent, accepted the Passion and the crucifixion, in the flesh that He assumed from you, and thus from destruction He rescued us. [GOASD] |

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God. |

Τὸν βυθὸν τῆς ἁλιείας καταλιπών, οὐρανόθεν ἐδέξω παρὰ Πατρός, τὴν θείαν ἀποκάλυψιν, τῆς τοῦ Λόγου σαρκώσεως· καὶ παῤῥησίᾳ πᾶσιν, ἐβόας τῷ Κτίστῃ σου· Τοῦ Θεοῦ σε γινώσκω, Υἱὸν ὁμοούσιον. You abandoned the fishery of the deep * and received from the Father the heaven-sent * divine revelation of the incarnation of the Logos. * And unto your Creator you cried out for all to hear,* “I know You, one in essence with the Father, O Son of God.” * Therefore you were truly and most worthily shown forth * indeed as the rock of faith and the man with the keys to grace, * O Apostle Peter. * Intercede with Christ our God * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who with longing observe your holy memory. Ἐνθυμοῦμαι τὴν κρίσιν καὶ δειλιῶ, τὴν ἐξέτασιν φρίττω τὴν φοβεράν, τρέμω τὴν ἀπόφασιν, καὶ πτοοῦμαι τὴν κόλασιν, τὴν τοῦ πυρὸς ὀδύνην, τὸ σκότος, τὸν τάρταρον. Οἴμοι! τί ποιήσω, ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ, ὅταν τίθωνται θρόνοι, καὶ βίβλοι ἀνοίγωνται, καὶ αἱ πράξεις ἐλέγχωνται! Τότε Δέσποινα, βοήθειά μοι γενοῦ, καὶ προστάτις θερμότατος· σὲ γὰρ ἔχω ἐλπίδα, ὁ δοῦλός σου. |
I remember the judgment and I am scared. * Of the close inquisition I am afraid. * I fear, trembling at the thought of the verdict and punishment, * and of the pain of fire, the darkness, and Hell’s abyss. * Alas! What shall I do in that hour on Judgment Day? * There will be the Judge’s seat and books will be opened. * And there will be inquiry of the actions of everyone. * O my Lady, I entreat, * be to me a helper then, * I beseech you, and an ardent advocate. * For I, your servant, have you as my only hope. Οὐρανόθεν τὴν κλῆσιν παρὰ Χριστοῦ, κομισάμενος ὤφθης κήρυξ φωτός, πᾶσι τοῖς τῆς χάριτος, καταλάμψας διδάγμασι· τὴν γὰρ τοῦ νόμου ξέσας, λατρείαν τοῦ γράμματος, τοῖς πιστοῖς κατήστραψας, τὴν γνῶσιν τοῦ Πνεύματος· ὅθεν καὶ εἰς τρίτον, οὐρανὸν ἐπαξίως, ἐπήρθης μετάρσιος, καὶ Παράδεισον ἔφθασας. You received out of heaven the call from Christ, * and were seen as a herald and preacher of light, * enlightening everyone with the teachings of grace divine. * You pared the ritual worship of the letter of the Law * and shined on the faithful the knowledge of the Spirit. * Therefore you were truly taken up and exalted * to third heaven worthily, and you reached even Paradise, * O Apostle St. Paul. * Intercede with Christ our God * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who with longing observe your holy memory. Χαριστήριον αἶνον χρεωστικῶς, ὡς ἡ χήρα ἐκείνη δύο λεπτά, προσφέρω σοι Δέσποινα, ὑπὲρ πασῶν τῶν χαρίτων σου· σὺ γὰρ ὤφθης σκέπη, ὁμοῦ καὶ βοήθεια, πειρασμῶν καὶ θλίψεων, ἀεί με ἐξαίρουσα· ὅθεν ὡς ἐκ μέσης φλογιζούσης καμίνου, ῥυσθεὶς τῶν θλιβόντων με, ἐκ καρδίας κραυγάζω σοι, Θεοτόκε βοήθει μοι, πρεσβεύουσα τῷ σῷ Υἱῷ καὶ Θεῷ, τῶν πταισμάτων ἄφεσιν δωρήσασθαι, τοῖς προσκυνοῦσιν ἐν πίστει, τὸν τόκον σου Ἄχραντε. |
Duty-bound I present you this hymn of praise, * like the widow’s two cents, out of gratitude, * O Lady, because of all your benevolent favors. * For you are my shelter and likewise my help in need; * from troubles and temptations you ever deliver me. * Therefore being rescued from the things that afflict me, * as though from a furnace fire, from my heart I cry out to you, * Theotokos help me, I pray, * interceding with your Son and God * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who faithfully worship your Son, O immaculate one. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. You have taken to yourself, O Lord, the pinnacles of Your Disciples, those unerring theologians and preachers, to enjoy Your blessings and repose. For You accepted their labors and their death as being higher than any whole-burnt offering, for only You know what is in the heart. [SD] |

Expand my tongue, O Savior; widen my mouth, and filling it, prick my heart; so that I may follow what I say, and what I impart, accomplish first; for great is he, it says, who puts to practice what he preach. Yet, if I say, but do not do, I am rendered but a cymbal peal. Hence, grant me say the necessary, and practice what is excellent, for only You know what is in the heart. [SD] |

On June 30 we celebrate the Synaxis of the Holy, glorious, and all-praised Twelve Apostles, and we say where each of them preached and died. |
Ταῖς τῶν Ἁγίων καὶ πανευφήμων Ἀποστόλων πρεσβείαις, ὁ Θεός, ἐλέησον ἡμᾶς. Ἀμήν. |
