On May 22 we commemorate the holy Martyr Basiliskos, nephew of Saint Theodore the Tyro.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Second Ecumenical Synod, which convened in the year 381, and which deposed Macedonius who said that the Holy Spirit was not God.

The holy Martyr Marcellus died when he was made to swallow molten lead.

The holy Martyr Codrus died when he was dragged by horses.

Saint John Vladimir, the king and wonder-worker, died by the sword.

The new holy Hieromartyr Zacharias of Prusa died by hanging.

By their holy intercessions, O God, have mercy on us. Amen.

The tyrants’ threats did not frighten you, nor did the prospects of torture cause you to shrink in fear. Worthily indeed were you glorified by Christ. And now you pray that He grant our souls the great mercy. [SD]

Let heaven and earth beam with great joy today, for Christ has appeared, incarnate as man, to release from the curse all of Adam’s human race. He is greatly marveled at, when he comes to Samaria. He is seen with a woman, and and He asks her for water, He who surrounds himself with clouds and water. So come, all believers, let us worship Him, who voluntarily became poor for our sake, in His compassionate plan. [SD]

It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing to Your name, O Most High, to proclaim Your mercy in the morning and Your truth at night. [SAAS]
