By Your voluntary will, O Savior, You endured the Cross, * In a new tomb mortal men buried Your body, O Lord, * who by a word had created the universe. * Death, the ancient foe, was restrained by You * and forcefully deprived of the spoils it had. * And all the souls in Hades sang and glorified * Your resurrection, which gave them life, * “Christ the Giver of Life has risen! * And He abides forever!” [GOASD]

Verse: O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your anger. [SAAS]

Meditate on this, my soul, that we will stand before the Judge, * that intimidating thrones will be set up in that hour, * and that the actions of everyone will be examined. * The righteous Judge will be inexorable. * Before His judgment seat will flow a raging fire, * like a sea that is stormy and roaring, and that engulfs the impenitent. * So meditate on these concerns at all times, * O my soul, and mend your ways. Your Church is arrayed in the holy blood of Your Martyrs who witnessed throughout the world, as though in purple and fine linen. Awesome is the mystery, and paradoxical is the miracle: how the Virgin carried You, the Creator of all, and how after childbirth she remained whole and a virgin. We pray You, who were born of her, to confirm the Faith, calm the nations, and give peace to the world, O benevolent God. [SD]

On May 20 we commemorate the holy Martyr Thalleleos.

We also commemorate the holy Martyr Asclas who died when he was cast into a river.

Our three devout and God-bearing Fathers Niketas, John, and Joseph, Founders of the sacred and royal New Monastery (that is, Nea Moni) on Chios, reposed in peace.

On this day was the removal and transfer of the relic of our Father among the Saints Nicholas, bishop of Myra in Lycia, the wonder-worker.
