For the Cross.

Mode 1.

When You were crucified, O Christ, the enemy’s tyranny was lifted and his power was crushed. For it was no Angel nor mere man, but You, the Lord himself, who saved us. Glory to You! [SD]

Verse: The Lord reigns; He clothed Himself with majesty; the Lord clothed and girded Himself with power. [SAAS]

Mode 1.

Isaac was led up into the mountain, and Jonah was led down into the sea, and both of them depicted Your Passion, O Savior. The one portrayed the bonds and the slaughter, the other portrayed the sepulcher, and the life of Your wonderful Resurrection. Glory to You, O Lord! [SD]

For the Martyrs.

Verse: God is wondrous in His saints. [SAAS]

Mode 1.

The holy martyrs suffered painful tortures for Your sake, O Lord; be compelled by what they endured, and heal our every pain, we entreat You, O only benevolent God. [SD]

When Thomas, who was known as the Twin, touched the Savior’s * insufferable side with his hand, he was not burnt, * but lingering he touched the wounds more precisely and cried aloud * to the Master who was by a spear pierced for our sake, * “Even if You did accept to suffer the Passion, * my Lord and my God are You!” [SD]

Come, all faithful, let us venerate the holy Resurrection of Christ; for behold, through the Cross, joy has come to the whole world. I pray you, O thrice-blessed James, as a fisher of men, with the net of your holy prayers, pull up my humble soul from the sea of transgressions, for it has been the prey of the pleasures of life for a long time. Thus leading the rest of my life without wavering, I shall extol your name and glorify your blameless life, which you led on the earth, for which on Mt. Tabor you were counted worthy to behold the Lord’s divine Transfiguration. [SD]

On April 30 we commemorate the holy and glorious Apostle James, the brother of St. John the Theologian.

On this day we also commemorate our devout father Clement the ecclesiastical poet.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Maximus.

On this day we also commemorate the finding of the relics of the holy Hieromartyr Vasilefs, Bishop of Amasia.

On this day we also commemorate our father among the saints Donatus, Bishop of Euroia.

On this day the holy Neo-martyr Argyri, who confessed Christ in Constantinople and was tortured for it, died in prison in the year 1725.

By their holy intercessions, O God, have mercy on us. Amen.
