Ἤ, ἀντὶ τῶν Ἀντιφώνων, κατὰ τὸ τυπικόν, ψάλλονται τὰ Τυπικὰ καὶ οἱ Μακαρισμοί.

In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πρᾳεῖς, ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσι τὴν γῆν.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV]

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [RSV]

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Μνήσθητί μου, ὁ Θεὸς ὁ Σωτήρ μου, ὅταν ἔλθῃς ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου, καὶ σῶσόν με, ὡς μόνος φιλάνθρωπος.

Like the robber I entreat You, O my Savior, * when You come in Your kingdom, remember me, * O Lord, and save me, O only benevolent God. [SD]

You have glorified the Prophets and the Teachers, * the Devout and the Just, O benevolent * and gracious Lord. By their entreaties, save us all. [SD]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Πῦρ καὶ ξίφος, ξέσεις καὶ ἀγρίους θῆρας, Ἀθλοφόροι μὴ πτήξαντες ἔνδοξοι, τῆς ἀϊδίου, ζωῆς ἠξιώθητε.

Holy Martyrs, you did not succumb to fire, * sword, and combing, nor even to wild beasts, * glorious athletes, and you obtained eternal life. [SD]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Μετὰ πάντων, τῶν Ἁγίων καὶ Δικαίων, τάξον Λόγε οὓς πίστει μετέστησας, ἐκ τῶν προσκαίρων, ὅπως σε δοξάζωμεν.

Place the souls of those whom You, O Logos, transferred * from this temporal life, there with all the Saints * and Righteous, so that we may glorify You, O Lord. [SD]

Holy Trinity, extolled as the almighty * single God: in the bosom of Abraham * place the believers whom You have from earth transferred. [SD]

Μακαρία, γενεαῖς ἐν πάσαις ὤφθης· τὸν Θεὸν γὰρ τὸν ὄντως μακάριον, ἀνερμηνεύτως, ἐκύησας Ἄχραντε.

You ineffably gave birth unto the truly * blessed God, O immaculate Maid, and thus * all generations know you to be truly blest. [SD]

Ὡς ἀπαρχὰς τῆς φύσεως, τῷ φυτουργῷ τῆς κτίσεως, ἡ οἰκουμένη προσφέρει σοι Κύριε, τοὺς θεοφόρους Μάρτυρας· ταῖς αὐτῶν ἱκεσίαις, ἐν εἰρήνῃ βαθείᾳ, τὴν Ἐκκλησίαν σου, διὰ τῆς Θεοτόκου συντήρησον, πολυέλεε.

O Planter of creation, Lord, to You does the entire world bring as an offering the God-bearing martyr Saints, as being nature’s first fruits. At their earnest entreaties, keep Your Church in a state of profoundest peace, through the Theotokos, O Lord abundantly merciful. [SD]

Brethren, in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things that belong to salvation. For God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love which you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. At that time, Jesus returned from the region of Tyre, and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of Dekapolis. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him. And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. And he charged them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well: he even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.” [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

Εἴδομεν τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινόν, ἐλάβομεν Πνεῦμα ἐπουράνιον, εὕρομεν πίστιν ἀληθῆ, ἀδιαίρετον Τριάδα προσκυνοῦντες· αὕτη γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἔσωσεν.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

Ἦχος δʹ.

Μετὰ πνευμάτων δικαίων, τετελειωμένων, τὰς ψυχὰς τῶν δούλων σου, Σῶτερ ἀνάπαυσον, φυλάττων αὐτάς, εἰς τὴν μακαρίαν ζωήν, τὴν παρὰ σοὶ φιλάνθρωπε.

Among the spirits of the righteous perfected in faith, give rest, O Savior, to the soul(s) of Your servant, keeping it (them) in the blessed life which is from You, O loving One. [GOA]

Εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν σου Κύριε, ὅπου πάντες οἱ ἅγιοί σου ἀναπαύονται, ἀνάπαυσον καὶ τὰς ψυχὰς τῶν δούλων σου, ὅτι μόνος ὑπάρχεις ἀθάνατος.

In your place of rest, O Lord, where all Your saints repose, give rest also to the soul of Your servant, for You alone are immortal. [GOA]

You are our God who descended into Hades and loosened the pains of those who were held captive. Grant rest also, O Savior, to the soul of Your servant. [GOA]

Ἡ μόνη ἁγνὴ καὶ ἄχραντος Παρθένος, ἡ Θεὸν ἀφράστως κυήσασα, πρέσβευε ὑπὲρ τοῦ σωθῆναι τὰς ψυχὰς τῶν δούλων σου.

You the only pure and spotless Virgin, who ineffably gave birth to God, intercede for mercy and forgiveness of the soul of your servant(s). [GOA]

Ἔτι δεόμεθα ὑπὲρ μακαρίας μνήμης καὶ αἰωνίου ἀναπαύσεως πάντων τῶν ἐπʼ ἐλπίδι ἀναστάσεως ζωῆς αἰωνίου κεκοιμημένων εὐσεβῶς ὀρθοδόξων χριστιανῶν, βασιλέων, πατριαρχῶν, ἀρχιερέων, ἱερέων, ἱερομονάχων, ἱεροδιακόνων, μοναχῶν, πατέρων, προπατόρων, πάππων, προπάππων, γονέων, συζύγων, τέκνων, ἀδελφῶν καὶ συγγενῶν ἡμῶν ἐκ τῶν ἀπʼ ἀρχῆς καὶ μέχρι τῶν ἐσχάτων, καὶ ὑπὲρ τοῦ συγχωρηθῆναι αὐτοῖς πᾶν πλημμέλημα ἑκούσιόν τε καὶ ἀκούσιον.

Again we pray for the blessed memory and eternal repose of all pious Orthodox Christians who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection unto life everlasting, emperors, patriarchs, bishops, priests, hieromonks, deacons, monastics, fathers, forebears, grandparents, great-grandparents, parents, spouses, children, siblings, and all our relatives, from the beginning until the end of time; and for the forgiveness of all their sins, both voluntary and involuntary.

Ὅπως Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς τάξῃ τὰς ψυχὰς αὐτῶν ἔνθα οἱ δίκαιοι ἀναπαύονται· τὰ ἐλέη τοῦ Θεοῦ, τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν, καὶ ἄφεσιν τῶν αὐτῶν ἁμαρτιῶν παρὰ Χριστῷ τῷ ἀθανάτῳ βασιλεῖ καὶ Θεῷ ἡμῶν αἰτησώμεθα.

May the Lord God place their souls where the righteous repose. Let us ask for the mercies of God, the kingdom of Heaven, and the forgiveness of their sins from Christ our immortal king and God.

O God of spirits and of all flesh, You trampled upon death and abolished the power of the devil, giving life to Your world. Give rest to the souls of Your departed servants, emperors, patriarchs, bishops, priests, hieromonks, deacons, monks, nuns, and all pious Orthodox Christians who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection unto life everlasting, from all the ends of the world, fathers, forebears, grandparents, great-grandparents, parents, spouses, children, siblings, and all our relatives. Give them rest in a place of light, in a place of green pasture, in a place of refreshment, from where pain, sorrow, and sighing have fled away. As good and benevolent God, forgive every sin they have committed in word, deed, or thought, for there is no one who lives and does not sin. You alone are without sin. Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your word is truth.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
