In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV] |
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV] |
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV] |
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [RSV] |
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV] |
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV] |
Troparia. |
From Octoechos - - - |
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV] |
Adam fell by a tree, and he was evicted from Paradise. * By the tree of the Cross the Robber gained entrance to Paradise. * The former, by tasting fruit, disobeyed his Maker’s commandment not to eat. * The latter was crucified with Him, whom though hidden he confessed to be God. * Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior. [SD] |
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV] |
Holy Martyrs, burning hot * in your pious souls was the love of Christ. * By your contests as with dew * you put out the fire of idolatry. * The Church holds you up as lamps; * and the light you shine drives away by grace divine * the darkness of illnesses * and the tribulations encountered by our souls. * Therefore each day we all dutifully honor you. [SD] |
Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV] |
God has glorified the Saints, * for with deeds of virtue they served Him well. * Let us therefore praise them all, * and extol the great holy Hierarchs, * the Prophets inspired by God, * the devout Monastics, and all the Women Saints. * And calling them blessed now, * let us pray that by their entreaties we attain * the eternal glory and splendor of God’s elect. [SD] |
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV] |
We beseech You, overlook * the sins and offenses committed by * those preceding us in death * departing this life that is full of pain. * O Savior, establish them, * Your servants, where sorrow and pain have fled away, * where hosts of the Saints now dwell, * and where Your ineffable light forever shines, * so that they may extol Your divine benevolence. [SD] |
Glory. |
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the indivisible Trinity, * united and unconfused * in the individual qualities, * One God, three hypostases: * give rest to Your servants who died with faith in You, * at the intercessions of Your Prophets and Martyrs, Ascetics and all Saints, * and grant them Your mercy, forgiving their every sin. [SD] |
Both now. Theotokion. |
You conceived and bore the Word * in the flesh when He became perfect man. * Yet before the morning star, * the Father begot Him eternally. * Your Son now is recognized * as having two natures, two wills and energies. * We beg you to pray to Him, * our Lord and Creator, that He be merciful * to us who extol you, immaculate Bride of God. [SD] |

Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 2. Psalm 31. |
Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. [SAAS] |
Verse: Be glad in the Lord and rejoice greatly, O righteous ones, and boast, all you upright in heart. [SAAS] |
The reading is from Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews. |
Heb. 3:12 – 16 |
Brethren, take care lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we share in Christ, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end, while it is said, “Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” Who were they that heard and yet were rebellious? Was it not all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses? [RSV] |

The Gospel |
Saturday of the 2nd Week of Lent |
The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Mark. |
Mk. 1:35 – 44 |
At that time, Jesus rose and went out to a lonely place, and there he prayed. And Simon and those who were with him pursued him, and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.” And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons. And a leper came to him beseeching him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. And he sternly charged him, and sent him away at once, and said to him, “See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to a priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” [RSV] |

Hymn to the Theotokos. |
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos. |
|
Communion Hymn. Psalms 64, 101. |
Blessed are they whom You have chosen and received, O Lord. Their memorial abides from generation to generation. Alleluia. [SAAS] |

Among the spirits of the righteous perfected in faith, give rest, O Savior, to the soul(s) of Your servant, keeping it (them) in the blessed life which is from You, O loving One. [GOA] |

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. |

You the only pure and spotless Virgin, who ineffably gave birth to God, intercede for mercy and forgiveness of the soul of your servant(s). [GOA] |

Again we pray for the blessed memory and eternal repose of all pious Orthodox Christians who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection unto life everlasting, emperors, patriarchs, bishops, priests, hieromonks, deacons, monastics, fathers, forebears, grandparents, great-grandparents, parents, spouses, children, siblings, and all our relatives, from the beginning until the end of time; and for the forgiveness of all their sins, both voluntary and involuntary. |
CHOIR: Lord, have mercy. (3) |
DEACON |
May the Lord God place their souls where the righteous repose. Let us ask for the mercies of God, the kingdom of Heaven, and the forgiveness of their sins from Christ our immortal king and God. |

DEACON |
Let us pray to the Lord. |
CHOIR: Lord, have mercy. |
PRIEST |
O God of spirits and of all flesh, You trampled upon death and abolished the power of the devil, giving life to Your world. Give rest to the souls of Your departed servants, emperors, patriarchs, bishops, priests, hieromonks, deacons, monks, nuns, and all pious Orthodox Christians who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection unto life everlasting, from all the ends of the world, fathers, forebears, grandparents, great-grandparents, parents, spouses, children, siblings, and all our relatives. Give them rest in a place of light, in a place of green pasture, in a place of refreshment, from where pain, sorrow, and sighing have fled away. As good and benevolent God, forgive every sin they have committed in word, deed, or thought, for there is no one who lives and does not sin. You alone are without sin. Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your word is truth. |
DEACON |
Let us pray to the Lord. |
CHOIR: Lord, have mercy. |
PRIEST |
For You are the resurrection, the life, and the repose of all the departed faithful Orthodox Christians, Christ our God, and to You we offer up glory, and to Your Father, who is without beginning, and Your all-holy, good and life-creating Spirit, now and ever and to the ages of ages. |
CHOIR: Amen. |
