When they had deadened burning impulses and movements * of sinful passions by their self-control and virtue, * then the Martyrs of Christ were given the divine grace * of driving away the illnesses of the sick * and working wonders, alive and after their death. * Paradoxical miracle it is indeed, that naked bones * should pour out cures abundantly. * Glory be to our only God. You were born of a Virgin, and You endured crucifixion for us, O good Lord. By Your death You divested death of spoils, and You displayed resurrection, as God. Please do not despise us, the work of Your hand. Demonstrate Your loving kindness, O merciful Master. Defer to Your Mother, the Theotokos, when she intercedes on our behalf, and save us, Your people in despair, O Savior. [GOASD]

Psalm 118 is recited in two stanzas. The reader begins reading up to v. 93 (“I will never forget…,” which is sung three times. Then the priest does the litany for the deceased. After the exclamation, the reader resumes reading, from v. 94 (“I am Yours…”) until the end, at which point v. 175 and v. 176 are joined (“My soul shall live… I went astray…”) and sung three times, followed immediately by the Evlogetaria for the Dead. Then the priest repeats the litany for the deceased. After that, the hymns of the second kathisma are sung. In the parishes, where the Psalm is typically not read, the hymns of the first kathisma are immediately followed by the Evlogetaria for the Dead; then the litany for the deceased is done, once, followed by the he hymns of the second kathisma.

Like a ray illumined by the emanations * of the that brightest sun, St. Paul * who has enlightened all the world, * you like a ray shined on all the earth. * Therefore we all honor you, St. Onesimus. [SD]

Who is able to praise you as is truly worthy? You were brought to the faith by that divine trumpet Paul, the wise Apostle. You were mystically illumined by the word of truth; and he testified about your virtuous works and your steadfastness of faith. Who can extol your labors, through which you firmly suppressed error and deception? From being a slave in the world, you were anointed to the priesthood in the Holy Spirit. Immense is the punishment for those who lead a prodigal life: the grinding of teeth and inconsolable weeping, the inferno of hell, the outer darkness, and the worm that never sleeps; ineffective tears, and the Judge unsympathetic. Let us therefore cry aloud and pray, “Master Christ, let those whom You have taken repose among Your chosen.” [GOASD]
