In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Adam from the curse of the tree was delivered * when of Your own will to the Tree You were fastened, * and You restored in him the image of God, O Savior, * and put him back again in Paradise. [SD]

Spacious place of God, rejoice, blessed Virgin! * Ark of the New Covenant, rejoice, Theotokos! * O golden jar, from which the heavenly Manna * was given unto all, O Lady, rejoice! [SD]

Μακάριοι οἱ ἐλεήμονες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἐλεηθήσονται.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Τὸ στερέωμα, τῶν ἐπὶ σοὶ πεποιθότων, στερέωσον Κύριε τὴν Ἐκκλησίαν, ἢν ἐκτήσω τῷ τιμίῳ σου αἵματι.

As the firm support of those who hope in You firmly, * O Lord and our Savior, support us, Your holy * Church You purchased * with Your most precious blood, O Christ. [GOASD]

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

First-created man had long ago been beguiled * to think like a child. But now God the Logos, * to restore him, has appeared as child himself. [GOASD]

Being born of earth, our human nature returned there. * Our Maker immutably became an infant; * thus He made it to conform to Divinity. [GOASD]

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Τοῦ βίου τὸ στάδιον, ὁ Τελώνης ἐν ταὐτῷ, καὶ Φαρισαῖος ἔδραμον· ἀλλʼ ὁ μὲν ἀπονοίᾳ κατενεχθείς, αἰσχρῶς ἐναυάγησεν, ὁ δὲ τῇ ταπεινώσει διεσῴζετο.

The Publican and Pharisee both ran in the race of life, ⁄ but the one was overcome by foolish pride: ⁄ He was brought to a shameful shipwreck, ⁄ while the other was saved by humility. [OCA]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Τοῦ βίου τὸ δίκαιον, διαμείβοντες ἡμεῖς, δρόμον ἐκμιμησώμεθα, τοῦ Τελώνου μὲν φρόνημα ζηλωτόν, φύγωμεν δὲ φύσημα βδελυκτὸν Φαρισαίου καὶ ζησώμεθα.

Changing to a righteous course of life, ⁄ let us emulate the wisdom of the Publican: ⁄ Let us run from the hateful conceit of the Pharisee, ⁄ so letting ourselves attain to life. [OCA]

Τοὺς τρόπους ζηλώσωμεν, τοῦ Σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ καὶ τὴν αὐτοῦ ταπείνωσιν, οἱ ποθοῦντες τὴν ἄληκτον τῆς χαρᾶς, τυχεῖν κατασκήνωσιν, ἐν τῇ χώρᾳ τῶν ζώντων αὐλιζόμενοι.

Let us eagerly follow the ways of Jesus the Savior, ⁄ and His humility, ⁄ in our desire to attain the eternal dwelling of joy, ⁄ and to find rest in the land of the living. [OCA]

Ἐκ τοῦ κατὰ Λουκᾶν ἁγίου Εὐαγγελίου τὸ ἀνάγνωσμα.

The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

The Lord said this parable, “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.” [RSV]

Theotokos, as the hope of us Christians, one and all, * guard and shelter and protect those who put their hope in you. [GOASD]

May He who condescended to be held in the arms of righteous Symeon, for our salvation, and rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
