When the robber had believed * that You the crucified were truly God, * he wholeheartedly and sincerely confessed You, * and he cried aloud to You, O Christ, “In Your kingdom, remember me.” [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

O Christ, that harlot of old * wholeheartedly repented and she wept, * and You justified her. O good Master, now likewise * rescue me, dejected as I am, * from punishment and hell, I pray. [SD]

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Let us together now extol * St. John the Baptist and Forerunner of Christ, * who prepared favorable ways for the Master, * so that from our sins we might be freed * through his holy prayers for us. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

O holy Martyr Saints of Christ * you drank His cup of death with eagerness of soul. * Now we pray you to deliver us from diseases * and from foul sins, by your divine * entreaties on our behalf. [SD]

Incomprehensible God, * almighty Trinity and Unity, * at the intercessions of Your Forerunner, save me, * and rescue me from darkness and the flame * that has been prepared for me. [SD]

The sinful deeds that I commit * continually leave a stain on me, * O Virgin, the unstained Mother of the Master. * Lady, I earnestly entreat: * wash away all filth from me. [SD]

Θείας πίστεως.

Laconia now rejoices greatly * in possession of the sacred casket * of your relics, which pour out streams of healing and cures, * and which from troubles and trials deliver all * who come to you, holy father, with ardent faith. * Pray to Christ our God, devout Nikon who preached “Repent!” * entreating Him to grant us His great mercy. [SD]

For St. Alypios.

Mode 1.

You became a pillar of patience, O devout one, emulating the forefathers, Job in his sufferings and Joseph in his temptations, and the manner of the bodiless, though you were still in body. O devout father Alypios, intercede with Christ God, to save our souls. [SD]

The Apolytikion of the parish church is sung. Then:

Mode 2.

O Prophet of God and Forerunner of grace divine, since we have obtained your Head from beneath the earth, as if a most sacred rose, we are receiving the healings continually. And once again, as formerly, you are preaching repentance throughout the world. [SD]

The righteous man shall be glad in the Lord, and shall hope in Him. [SAAS]

The reading is from Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians.

1 Th. 1:6 – 10

Brethren, you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit; so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us what a welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. The Gospel

Tuesday of the 11th Week of Luke

The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

Lk. 19:45 – 48

At that time, Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and buying there, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’; but you have made it a den of robbers.” And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people hung upon his words. [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

DISMISSAL

Glory to You, our God, glory to You.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and our devout fathers Alypios the Stylite and Nikon “Repent,” whose memory we observe, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.

Fasting Rule

Fish: fish, oil and wine are allowed. Refrain from meat, dairy and eggs.

It is the Christmas fast.
