In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί, ὅτι αὐτοὶ Υἱοὶ Θεοῦ κληθήσονται.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Ὡραῖος ἦν καὶ καλὸς εἰς βρῶσιν, ὁ ἐμὲ θανατώσας καρπός· Χριστός ἐστι τὸ ξύλον τῆς ζωῆς, ἐξ οὗ φαγὼν οὐ θνῄσκω, ἀλλὰ βοῶ σὺν τῷ λῃστῇ· Μνήσθητί μου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

The fruit that killed me of old was good for food and beautiful to contemplate. But Christ is the very tree of life, from which I eat and die not. And echoing the Robber’s words, I cry out, “Remember me in Your kingdom, O Lord.” [SD]

You laid Your hands on the Cross, O Savior, * in Your great benevolence as God, * and thus corrected Adam’s fateful fall, * when on the tree of knowledge * he laid his hand and ate its fruit. * Therefore, Benefactor and Lord, * we glorify You evermore. [SD]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

A crowd of Jews gave You up to Romans, * who then crucified You, Christ the King, * on Calvary, the place of Adam’s skull; * and You, as God and Savior, * crushed the foe’s pernicious skull, * and gushed from Your holy side * rivers of forgiveness to us. [SD]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Μαρτυρικόν.

For the Martyrs.

Μιμούμενοι τοῦ Χριστοῦ τὰ πάθη, τὰ θεῖα καὶ σωτήρια, ὑπέστητε βασάνους πολυειδεῖς, καὶ πρὸς ἀθανασίαν, μετεβιβάσθητε ὁμοῦ, Μάρτυρες πανεύφημοι· ὅθεν μακαρίζεσθε.

As you endured many forms of torture, * you were imitating the divine * Passion and saving sufferings of Christ, * and thus you were translated * together to immortal life, * O all-lauded Martyr Saints. * Hence you are beatified. [SD]

Φῶς τριλαμπὲς τῆς Τριάδος σέβω, ἐν τρισὶ προσώποις νοούμενον, καὶ μιᾷ οὐσίᾳ ἕνα Θεόν, τὰ τρία νῦν γινώσκω· μία γὰρ φύσις καὶ ἀρχή, Πατρὸς Υἱοῦ καὶ Πνεύματος, συνέχουσα τὰ πέρατα.

The Trinity’s light of triple brightness * is perceived in three hypostases. * I worship it and know now that the three * are one in essence, one God. * The Father, Son, and Spirit share * one nature and principle, * sustaining the universe. [SD]

Σταυρούμενον τὸν ἐκ σοῦ τεχθέντα, καθορῶσα ἐκραύγαζες, τὰ σπλάγχνα δονουμένη Μαριάμ· Πῶς ταῦτα ἑκουσίως, πάσχεις μακρόθυμε Υἱέ, θέλων τὸ ἀνθρώπινον, ἐκ φθορᾶς λυτρώσασθαι;

You saw your Son, whom you bore, O Mary, * being nailed to the cross, and you wept. * And shaken to the core, you cried aloud, * “Forbearing Son, how can You * willingly suffer all these things, * to rescue humanity * from corruption, as You will?” [SD]

Ὁ Μάρτυς σου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ ἀθλήσει αὐτοῦ, τὸ στέφος ἐκομίσατο τῆς ἀφθαρσίας, ἐκ σοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν· ἔχων γὰρ τὴν ἰσχύν σου, τοὺς τυράννους καθεῖλεν· ἔθραυσε καὶ δαιμόνων, τὰ ἀνίσχυρα θράση, αὐτοῦ ταῖς ἱκεσίαις Χριστέ, σῶσον τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

Your Martyr, O Lord, was worthily awarded by You * the crown of incorruption, in that he contested for You our immortal God. * Since he possessed Your power, he defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at his fervent entreaties, save our souls. Μεγαλύνει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν Κύριον, καὶ ἠγαλλίασε τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐπὶ τῷ Θεῷ τῷ σωτῆρί μου.

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. [RSV]

Στίχ. Ὅτι ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὴν ταπείνωσιν τῆς δούλης αὐτοῦ· ἰδού γάρ, ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν μακαριοῦσί με πᾶσαι αἱ γενεαί.

Brethren, to me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confidence of access through our faith in him. So l ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. For this reason I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with might through his Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, to him be glory in the church in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. At that time, when the soldiers came to a place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull), they offered Jesus wine to drink, mingled with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over him there. And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus the King of the Jews.” Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “This man is calling Elijah.” And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and the rocks were split; the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe, and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” [RSV]

Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the holy Martyr Longinus, the Centurian, whose memory we observe, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
