Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, a door of enclosure about my lips.

Incline not my heart to evil words, to make excuses in sins.

With men who work lawlessness; and I will not join with their choice ones.

The righteous man shall correct me with mercy, and he shall reprove me; but let not the oil of the sinner anoint my head.

For my prayer shall be intense in the presence of their pleasures. Their judges are swallowed up by the rock.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

When Saul, who formerly was controlled by darkness, * received in his soul the ray of God and thus was filled, * and by divine guidance came to you, * O Ananias, * seeking the purification most divine, * then, all-wise and blessed one, being a Hierarch, * by means of baptism you adopt * the one who later * himself adopted the inhabited earth; * and so in blessing him we also bless * you the holy Apostle of Christ our God, * whom you earnestly pray now * to illumine us and save our souls. Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

In things divine paradoxally instructed, * O blessed one, louder than the thunder you proclaimed * the saving word of the living God, * and resurrected * people asleep in graves of futility; * and these therein threw off from themselves the very death * which had united them with the dead * and which to Hades * returns the ones who possess it as their own. * And these you made the precious vessels of * the Lord Jesus, our Master who saves our souls * and himself put to death him * who effectively was killing us. Τῶν οὐρανίων ταγμάτων.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions. [SAAS]

The Church’s pipe of divine songs, * the Holy Spirit’s lyre, * composer and musician, * who chirped like a cicada, * whose voice was like a nightingale’s, now presents * entertainment in melody * for all who prayerfully listen, and he delights * those of godly mind by means thereof. [SD]

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples. [SAAS]

The shining lamp that is very * brilliant and very clear, * the sweet and tuneful zither, * and the harp-string of lucid * sayings of the Spirit distinctly now sings * and instructs all in every place * to send up glorification in ceaseless hymns * to the Godhead’s single radiance. [SD]

For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever. [SAAS]

O Romanos, you are standing beside the Lord of all, * having obtained great license in addressing the Master, * remember us to Him, as we festively keep * your illustrious memory, * and pray that He will deliver us from all harm * and from trials, O father blest by God. [SD]

Mode 1.

O Apostle, you baptized and illumined the Apostle Paul, that great chosen vessel of the Spirit, when you were informed by revelation from God. You were an eye-witness of Logos, a mystic of His miracles, and an Apostle before the disciples, a faithful steward of the New Covenant. So you imitated Christ, your teacher, and you shed your own blood, and you became a confessor undergoing martyrdom, O Ananias, hierarch of Christ. Since you have finished the race and kept the faith inviolate, you dwell now in the heights with the celestial ministers. We entreat you to intercede for the salvation of our souls. [SD]

O Lady, as a deep ocean of mercy, have mercy on me, for I have sunk into the depths of impurity. Lord our God, who inclined the heavens and came down for the salvation of humankind, look upon Your servants and Your inheritance; for they have bowed their heads and bent their necks to You, the fearsome yet compassionate Judge, not expecting human help, but awaiting Your mercy and anticipating Your salvation. Guard them at all times, this evening and the coming night, from every enemy, from all demonic activity against them, from unprofitable reflections, and from wicked thoughts.

I do not desist from committing sins; and as the recipient of Your benevolence, I am unaware. Overcome my hardness of heart, only good Lord, and have mercy. [SD]

Verse: I lift my eyes to You, who dwell in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the maidservant look to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God until He shall have compassion on us. [SAAS]

O Lord, from fear of You I am terrified, and even so I cease not from doing evil. In a court of justice who is not terrified of the judge? Or who, wishing to be healed, enrages the physician as I do? Be compassionate towards my infirmity, O forbearing Lord, and have mercy on me. [SD]

Armed with the shield of faith, and rousing themselves to action with the sign of the Cross, O Lord, Your Saints of their own accord went forth courageously to the tortures, and they abolished the delusion and the audacity of the devil. You became triumphant in martyrdom, O Apostle Ananias. When you were pelted with stones as with flowers, you willingly shed your blood for the sake of Christ, who suffered in the flesh for us. Therefore the city of Damascus is elated today, as she festively celebrates your memory. And not only that city, but the whole wide world clearly proclaims your wonderful miracles and calls out to you, “Intercede with God, to grant us forgiveness of sins.” [SD]

In you, O Father, is preserved undistorted what was made in the image of God; for taking up the cross, you followed Christ and by example taught, that we should overlook the flesh, since it passes away, and instead look after the soul, since it is immortal. And therefore, O devout Romanos, your spirit rejoices with the angels. [SD]

O Believers, let us magnify the Theotokos in hymns. She is the unshakable support of the Faith, and the venerable gift to our souls. “Rejoice! for in your womb you contained the Rock of life. Rejoice! as the hope of all the earth, and the help of those in trouble! Rejoice, O unwedded Bride!” [SD]
