The sacred progeny of devout St. Sophia * were Faith and Hope and Love, her most decorous daughters. * They showed that the wisdom of the pagan Greeks was nonsensical. * They competed well and were victorious Martyrs. * They received the crowns of incorruptible glory * from Christ who is Lord of all. The unlawful edict was issued to all the ends of the earth, to offer sacrifices and libations to idols, and to decorate altars and temples of demons, which would be the destruction of humanity. Then those famous and lovely virgin girls shone like stars and dispelled the darkness of ungodliness and ignorance. They kindled the light of true faith in God in the hearts of the faithful, they publicly cried out, “Greatest is the God, who was crucified of His own will and who rose on the third day! He is the One we boast of. Therefore, they obtained an incorruptible crown, from Christ who is Lord of all. [SD]
