Psalm 103 (104).

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. For pious and Orthodox Christians, let us pray to the Lord.

For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger, and distress, let us pray to the Lord.

Help us, save us, have mercy on us, and protect us, O God, by Your grace.

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, a door of enclosure about my lips.

Incline not my heart to evil words, to make excuses in sins.

With men who work lawlessness; and I will not join with their choice ones.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

First you put to flight the wild beasts of the passions, renowned champion; ⁄ then by divine entreaty you stopped the gaping mouths of lions ⁄ and the assaults of wild beasts in the arena! ⁄ You were unharmed by them! ⁄ You did not cower in fear before the fire nor the wrath of the judge, ⁄⁄ for, blessed one, you preferred nothing to the love of Christ! For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions. [SAAS]

Holy Father John, indeed most wise, you were adorned in the robe * of the priesthood, like Aaron of old, * and you wore it solemnly. * Now in heaven you passed beyond * the second curtain, and therein you behold * the very Holy of Holies for yourself. * Marvelous and sublime * the illumination you received from God! * You, O Saint, are the divine jewel hierarchs. Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples. [SAAS]

Holy Father John, indeed most wise, you have became like God * through sincere generosity. * Standing near Him, deified * through a union transcending all, * and your unyielding longing for Him alone, * your mind and soul being wholly pure and bright, * filled are you with divine, * uncreated light that comes from Him to you, * the most sacred and divine jewel of hierarchs. Lord our God, who inclined the heavens and came down for the salvation of humankind, look upon Your servants and Your inheritance; for they have bowed their heads and bent their necks to You, the fearsome yet compassionate Judge, not expecting human help, but awaiting Your mercy and anticipating Your salvation. Guard them at all times, this evening and the coming night, from every enemy, from all demonic activity against them, from unprofitable reflections, and from wicked thoughts.

Mode 1.

The sea of my transgressions, O Savior, is immense, and I am drowning grievously in my iniquities. Save me; give Your hand to me, O God, as to Peter, and have mercy on me. [SD]

Verse: I lift my eyes to You, who dwell in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the maidservant look to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God until He shall have compassion on us. [SAAS]

I am condemned, O Savior, for wicked thoughts and deeds. Therefore, O God, implant in me the thought of turning back, that I may cry to You, my good Benefactor: Save me and have mercy on me. [SD]

Come, faithful! ⁄ Let us celebrate with harmony the memory of Mammas the martyr! ⁄ He has been revealed to us as a new Abel, ⁄ for as Abel became a shepherd of sheep, ⁄ bringing his first lamb to sacrifice and so acquiring the victor’s crown, ⁄ so the honored martyr was eminent among shepherds of livestock; ⁄ through martyrdom, he offered himself to Christ ⁄ as an acceptable sacrifice! ⁄ Since he has boldness before Christ, ⁄⁄ he asks peace for the world and great mercy for our souls! O immaculate Virgin pure, * we have come to your holy church. * Weeping in repentance, we wet the floor with tears, * trusting in you to entreat for us and fervently intercede * with your Son, our Master Christ, * so that we be absolved of all our most heinous sins, * and that grace be provided to the faithful, who accept Him as the Savior, * O Theotokos, and honor you. Your Martyr, O Lord, was worthily awarded by You * the crown of incorruption, in that he contested for You our immortal God. * Since he possessed Your power, he defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at his fervent entreaties, save our souls. A rule of faith are you, and an icon of gentleness, and a teacher of self-control. And to your flock this was evident, by the truth of your life and deeds. You were humble and therefore you acquired exalted gifts, treasure in heaven for being poor. Holy and devout Father John, intercede with Christ our God, and entreat Him to save our souls. [SD]

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and the holy Martyr Mamas, whose memory we are observing, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
